The Action Network is banning all Americans. It's hard to imagine how they can stay in business. Actually, it's hard to imagine how they stayed before the UIGEA.

| Posted by: DrStrange at October 14, 2006, 5:32 pm | | Topic: US Poker Rooms Forum: Bonus Whores | This is a tough call for a public company with a big investment in the US market. On one side you have the legal risk linked to the chance to build a significantly bigger US customer base, on the other side you mitigate most of the legal risk by giving up your biggest market.
Since both sides of the risk carry a sizable chance for financial and personal disaster, it has been quite a shock to see every one of the public companies falling on the same side of the question. Makes me wonder if; a) there is significant legal risk we don't understand and/or b) this is going to turn out to be a way to cram down awful terms to the public shareholders. Most of the public poker rooms may be be effectively bankrupt with the loss of their US market - so a forced sale back to founders could in the cards.
I suspect we are going to see lots of creative financial dealings in the next 60 days. There is a fortune to be made in the US market - someone is going to find a way to get that money.

I guess we can all interpret it how we want to. I will continue to deposit and play and clear bonuses at any site that will let me.
I think it will only take one poker site to go down by the Feds that stays, for them all to go down. Then, online poker as we know it is done. I don't think the Feds or anyone will enforce any of this, but if they decided to...it's all over.
Actually, this has been an interesting process. To a one, nearly EVERY site that has closed to US players have been publically traded companies. They are publically accountable to both their shareholders and regulators, and simply can't based their business survival on flaunting US law, regardless if they think it is right or not. I understand where they are coming from, even though it sucks.

I wish I would saved mine. I'm a member of like 80 poker sites, it'd be hard to navigate through my inbox if I kept all the statements I've received from them in the last 2 weeks.

They stated they will continue to accept US members and business would continue as usual. It was an official release. I guess I took that as they were staying.
Anyway, this shit is crazy. Some sites like Tropical are saying things like:
Quote: The hype surrounding this has suggested that it amounts to a “ban on online gambling".
This information is totally incorrect.
Tropical Poker is a legally licensed and privately held company in the country of Curacao, Antilles. As a privately held company we have no such pressures placed upon us.
There will continue to be much confusion and misinformation caused by this bill, as the parties involved attempt to decipher the exact meanings and terms specified in this document.

This doesn't sounds like 100% either for Mansion. Do you know something we don't?
US Congress has passed the SAFE Ports Act which contains provisions that would further restrict payment transactions to online gaming sites from US residents.
The affect of the legislation at this time remains unclear. MANSION continues to closely monitor developments of the proposed amendments to U.S. legislation, and we are actively seeking the best legal advice to remain fully informed of the new legal environment.

That being said, I'm more confident that Ongame WILL accept Americans than I was the last few days. Being a publically traded really worries me, though. I've heard from a couple different places that they will be making a statement soon.

With regards to your inquiry, I am sorry to inform you but as of now we do not have an update on this issue yet. I surely do assure you that once we at Hollywood Poker receive an update, we would email all our players regarding the Bill. | | Static Link |
| Posted by: Danieljeans at October 13, 2006, 11:07 am | | Topic: US Poker Rooms Forum: Bonus Whores | I was going to say when did Hollywood claim 100% where they stood? I know Gonzo would be updating us asap on that one, had they annoucned that.
He also has $10.00 on the line, so I know he is hoping to lose that bet too!!
I am still wondering how Full Contact Poker keeps saying they are going nowhere, and offering all those reloads (300) and the new (500) when its Ongame that controls that aspect.
I remembering someone saying they thought maybe FCP would jump to Prima, but since I am one of the states that is banned from those, that would suck royal!

I'm doing the best I can to keep everything up to date. Hollywood is not 100%, as I'm sure Ongame has final say over that. I've sent an email to Mansion to clarify their position.
