This situation has been resolved to my satisfaction. Luckily, none of the funds had been transferred or dumped, so it was relatively simple.
PS support confirmed that the access was from a computer different than mine, and just require an ID scan to re-open my account.
Still waiting on AP to finish the investigation, see the other thread.

this probably won't be of any help, but anyway...
check your computer with other antivirus/spyware programs at least (or better format disk).
while playing on party i had zone alarm installed which was the only program that recognized keyloggers, etc installed by party poker (have no idea why other well known programs weren't able the same). maybe it would be the same with other keyloggers installed by unknown.
after quiting party i've installed nod32, but after your post i'm thinking about going back to ZA although it is maybe not the top antivirus program. by having some money on sites / ewallets i'm more concerned about keyloggers than some viruses that could destroy my computer.
for users of moneybookers - beware of phishing. do not open MB directly from mails 'they' send you. have received couple of mails from their support, that i've received 760$ or 275$ on my... | | Read Entire Entry |

That's an excellent idea, and one I hadn't thought of. I will do it right away.
I guess I am stull a N00B... how do you change your secure ID in Neteller?
I believe if you call them, they can do it pretty quick.
Yeah, just call them up. Usually they're pretty professional about it, but once I had a lady on the phone ask me all these questions about why I wanted to and giving me tips on how to keep it safe. It was ridic', but that was once. | | Static Link |

Yeah, that's the only possible explanation I can think of, My hotmail got hacked. Because after all this happened, I virus scanned like crazy looking for key loggers, trojan horses, etc and found nadda. Either that or the previous suggestion that disgruntled workers from poker sites that have downsized because of the whole US fiasco have my information.

| Posted by: ajk123 at December 7, 2006, 2:44 pm | | Topic: Unauthorized access to my Poker Stars account Forum: Bonus Whores | Same thing happened to me on 12/1. Some guy got access to my PokerStars account and logged in. I had a $600 balance. Somehow they had access to my Neteller secure id as well and made a $600 deposit and proceeded to lose all $1200 within an hour. From there, they created a Full Tilt poker account, withdrew $1000 from my Neteller and proceeded to lose $800 in that account until I caught them and FullTilt froze that account. This all happened within a span of 3 hours. Good thing I wasn't at work that day and I was able to check my Neteller account and see some withdrawals that I did not do. Who knows how much more they would've taken out?
Both Stars and Full Tilt told me that it was a "joy rider" rather than chip dumping, so I'm shit out of luck trying to get my money back. Pretty much they both told me.. "Sorry, but we can't do anything. Be more careful with your passwords next time." And then FullTilt told me the good news. If I created a new account, they could transf... | | Read Entire Entry |

That will help keep people from accessing your accounts in the future.

This may be overly paranoid, but whenever an account of mine closes (for instance, OnGame closed all US accounts) or when a poker room I've played goes under, I call up Neteller and change my secure ID #. You never know what information those now unemployed customer service people have and how they may use it.
Another good idea and one I will certainly employ going forward...

Right now I am running XP like everyone else. I can upgrade to Vista when it is released.
According to the geeks I know, Vista actually eliminates several huge, gaping security holes present in XP.

Even if there is some sort of protection to stop someone transferring soon after a deposit, why didn't the villain of the piece not dump it to another account?
Very odd situation, and also extremely worrying.
I frankly have no idea how this could have happened. I only use one computer to log on, and it is brand new and protected.
I was surprised, pleasantly so, that the money was still there when I was able to log in.
I have been moving money between Neteller and various poker accounts since October, 2003, and this is the first time anything like this has happened.

Just curious if you may have obtained a virus recently or if that was possible at all(meaning did you d/l anything suspicious), if you have you need to "clean" your system. | | Static Link |

I wonder how long you had to stop something like this? It seems like the whole deal could be done in less than 10 minutes, yet the first step took place hours ago. Maybe there is a security measure in place at PokerStars that prevents new reloads from being transfered?

| Posted by: andrew26 at December 4, 2006, 7:05 pm | | Topic: Unauthorized access to my Poker Stars account Forum: Bonus Whores | I was checking my Neteller account today to determine if an Absolute Poker cashout had been credited when I noticed a $500 debit to Poker Stars from Neteller. The debit was dated yesterday, 12/3.
In a semi-panic, I tried to log into my Poker Stars account and it told me my password was invalid.
Poker Stars allows you to have a new, temporary PW emailed to you, so I followed this route and changed my PW again, to something different than before.
Thankfully, the $500 was still in my account, so I guess I caught this in time before it was transferred to another player or dumped at a table.
Poker Stars security has emailed me already with a list of very detailed questions so they are on the job.
The reason for this post is to let you know that this CAN happen, even to folks who have been at this for years. I was lucky to catch it in time but it is disturbing that someone was able to access my account without my knowledge or permission, change my passw... | | Read Entire Entry |
