| Posted by: AlanN at July 2, 2007, 2:07 pm | | Topic: Poker on TV Forum: Bonus Whores | From their wiki entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Full_Tilt_Poker
"Full Tilt Poker is an online poker cardroom launched in June 2004 with the involvement of a team of poker professionals, among them Howard Lederer, Phil Ivey, Andy Bloch and Chris Ferguson."
I think I also recall from a magazine article that they own or are heavily invested in TiltWare, which provides all the software and support for Full Tilt. There is also a big PR firm that they are involved in which represents all of the Full Tilt pros.
Either way they are making huge amounts of money from not playing poker.

I heard 1000 an hour, but it may have been rounded or maybe they got a raise. Either way, they are there to play poker and are risking way more than the hourly wage could make up for.
What's the minimum buy in there anyway?
Last season was $100k minimum buyin with $50k minimum rebuys, IIRC.

They get different rates. Mike the mouth was about to leave since he was up big and his manager got him out of the game. Then after the manager left they offered mike twice as much per hour to say and he lost it all ahhahaha | | Static Link |

So these pros are really doing nothing more than bonuswhoring HSP.
I can respect that.

More tv time => more famous => more money from sponsors and other poker related businesses.
That's probably the main reason they don't mind playing agains other pro's.
(and probably the reason why for example C.Ferguson played this year. Even though he is not in the same league as other cashgame pro's.
Team Full Tilt is a gold mine for pro's like him, so tv time is the best way to make sure you stay in that team)
I think they get some sort of payement from HSP though, but it will not be much because there are more pro's wanting to be in the show than spots to play. | | Static Link |

If you are refering to High Stakes Poker, I think most players are being paid a per-hour appearance fee.
In general, the exposure alone might be worth the risk. Some poker celebrities might be paid more in endorsement fees and appearance fees than they make on poker. Having a stable base line income from side deals would be very appealing to someone involved in a business where you have huge swings in income based largely on random chance. In general, the better your name/face recognition the more you stand to make.

It seems to me that the celebrities that are regularly appearing on the formatted poker TV programs (not the large tournament coverage) must be getting appearance fees or consideration of some kind. Does anyone have accurate informaation about this?

Most of the celebrities of which I thinking about would be getting consideration from their sponsors whose apparel they display on screen, but I'm wondering if the TV program itself pays these guys just to show up and play. Does anyone have the answer? | | Static Link |
