Sorry about the very late reply (I've been overseas and just catching up on posts).
Mate, Australian legislation simply prevents Australian online gaming companies from providing real time gaming services to Australian residents. This is why Poker.com won't allow Australians to open accounts. A few overseas companies have misinterpreted the legislation and, as such, prevent Australians from opening accounts - however, these companies are few and far between. The vast majority of online poker rooms, casinos and sportsbooks provide online gaming services to Australian residents.

I am eager to make a deposit to an online poker site to try and earn the bonus and win some money whilst I am at it. However, I am concerned about the legalities considering I'm an Australian resident.
Sites terms and conditions generally include things such as:
* You may only participate if it is legal in your country or jurisdiction. It is your responsibilty to determine that it is legal in your location.
* If you contravene any of the above terms and conditions then we have the right to freeze/cancel your account and you will not be entitled to any funds attributed to your account.
My brother did a little research for me and found http://www.gambling-law-us.com/Articles-Notes/online-gambling-australia.htm which suggests that it is illegal for Australian residents to participate in online poker.

The thing is with 100 entry, for a 12,000 package...that's 1 out of 120 gets a seat....rough.
If you can get into partys CPC qualifier its 1 out of ten... but also it's an $800 entry.... Their 90+9 qualifier to that was a pretty tight game...
One day I'll win one of these trips.. | | Static Link |

I suggest checking out Poker.com if you haven't already:

They've actually cut down on the number of tournament packages offered, I think, because not that many peope are entering the qualifiers. Your chances are probably better here than the bigger sites mentionaed upthread. Heck, they even have two daily freeroll qualifiers! Those are obviously packed, but the $1 buyin tournies usually only have a few dozen entrants.

Bahamas is cool but we will also have chicks in bikinis - and gorgeous Clock Girls for the Speed Poker Event at the Aussie Millions. PokerStars, PartyPoker, TitanPoker and CelebPoker are running satellites and an Aussie poker forum (pokernetwork.com) are giving away 25 x $1600 seats to the Speed Poker event as a promotion.
It will be worth the flight

Not really cuz if I'm in Australia I'd have to visit my sister and brother-in-law and that would negate everything else. | | Static Link |

I've been to the bahamas, and the hotel that the CPC is at is amazing... The aquarium there is awesome.. And the locals on the public beach a few blocks away can hook you up with anything you could ever want.... And cuban cigars are a plus.. Buy from the flamingo shops though.. Anywhere else, and It's probably just a dominican.
I may take a shot at a low satellite for the aussie tournie....I'd love to see australia... The odds are just so shitty for those though. | | Static Link |
