I always limp my first hand and usually fold it and rebuy instantly... There's usually a chance to double up during that first hour, sometimes 2 or 3. So you should be sitting pretty well after the addon period.
I wouldn't just walk away... But play good TIGHT poker, and use your advantage to get the risk takers chips during the 1st hour.. Or risk it up, and rebuy yourself to amass a stack.. But once you stack one or two people in these you have a good shot with a nice overlay once all the people who don't rebuy drop out. | | Static Link |

If you think making the bubble is a good payday and you want to grind/stall a money out, more power to you. But its so hard to come from behind on good players with 4-5x your stack and MTTs are always top heavy payouts? Just find a rebuy level youre comfy with and fire.

I went back and looked at hand histories and saw that I got 0 monsters. But for long term success you are right. I just started gettin back into the MTT scene and some of those are crazy. Had a guy the other night buy in 15 times at my table. | | Static Link |

It works and although I can't prove it I'm damn near positive it's +EV in almost every case. And the smaller the rebuy buy in the better.
But go one better -- sit there the first hour and play rock poker. Play AA, KK and QQ and limp your pairs to hit sets. Often you can double up once in the hour and end up with an even better chip stack.

Anyways, I was just playing around with a few different strategies and found that if you buy in, leave and dont play for the first hour, you barely lose any chips. Anways come back rebuy, then do an add on. At this point you have about 9k in chips with about 900 players left and an average stack just over 15k. The great part is that the blinds are still at 150-300. With a 9k stack and terrible players you are used to rebuy poker, its not hard to double within 15 minutes. Because of all the rebuys, the prize pool is also 25k. This is a good investment for that big pay day. | | Static Link |
