You're right, it takes some getting used to for some folks. The point of slices and Gold Cards isn't that you play trying to get these...it's that you get these for your play regardless of whether or not you understand or want them.
We're not going to market Gold Cards or Cake Slices in ads or commercials for a while, because they simply take to long to explain to someone new.
They're intended to reward players already in the site playing, not pull people in. With that said, players with even one Gold Card get curious as to what they got it for or what they can do with it, hence the guide.
Gold Cards are an imbedded rewards program inside Cake that is never going to expire. From the start, we knew that we needed to create a program that would reward players years later for being with Cake in the first days and Gold Cards were the answer.

How do you win? Does this happen whenever you win a hand, randomly when you win a hand, randomly when you go to showdown, some other way? If it is random, about how often should "wins" happen?
This is an interesting promotion, but needs more explanation.
I think you win if your hole card matches the one that's picked from the vault before the hand starts even if you fold your hand pre flop. Then these gold cards that you won go to your own stash which you can trade in for some cash or some other prizes if you wish to do so or hold off for something better. | | Static Link |

You win Gold Cards by playing at real money ring games. The two hole cards you are dealt are eligable to turn into Gold Cards at the end of the hand. If you win, your name plate will get a gold graphic around it and you'll see the Gold Card move from the dealer to you. At this point, the Gold Card is yours and it is put into your Collection.
Process of Gold Card Awarding
The Gold Card Vault started with 260,000 Series 1 Gold Cards inside it less than a month ago. The most available card is the 2 of clubs and the most rare card is the Ace of Spades and all other cards are weighted in between.
Once a table reaches a certain amount of rake (let's say $8 for argument's sake), it puts in a call to the Gold Card Vault. Then the Gold Card Vault chooses a random number and pulls out a Gold Card.
