I've been thinking of taking half my profits for the month and doing something like this. Basically starting off with whatever limit I have 100BB at and jumping up everytime I have 100BB for another level.
Sure even if I play well I could go busto from variance alone -- 100BB swings are not even slightly uncommon multitabling SH tables, but I think it would be good to play some limits that I'm way uncomfortable at and see what happens.
Nothing wrong with a high risk/high return investment now and then.

I assume from your posts that you are used to play low limit cash games. While it helps to be good at NL cash games early in the tournament, you have to do adjustments when the blinds get bigger, and especially bubble strategy is something you wont be used to (and which again is completely different in MTTs and SNGs).
So for a good start i would recommend buying the three volumes of Harrington on Holdem and study them thouroughly (if you havent already done this). This will get you a firm grasp of the needed tournament strategy.
Then i wouldnt recommend playing any big tournaments with 1000+ participiciants.
These are good for taking a shot, but most of the time you will either finish out of the money
or have a tiny payout. You really have to make the final table once in a while to make them worthwile... | | Read Entire Entry |

I have played on average 12-15 hours per week, sometimes 25, sometimes zero.
Now I have a bankroll of $8800, after whoring 45 sites.
I have never played significantly above 0.5/1 FLHE which is +EV for me verywhere except crypto's funnily enough (I just cant win there, barely breaking even on a good day).
So, you can do it playing a lot of hours at that level if you are a winning player at that level.

The answer is, whichever makes you the best return. Since you offered no insight on what you're best at, nobody can give you an answer.
MTTs have high variance. Ring games have lower variance. Calculate your own win rate per 100 hands...figure out how many hands that is...play them. Stick with what you win at. Don't try to change to something that you are less likely to succeed at. Big tourneys draw good players.
If you feel like you want to play some bigger tourneys to try to get your nut in one shot, sattelite in. All the major sites offer sattelites into their larger tourneys. Maybe you get in one and get lucky. But that's what it will take...luck. Because you aren't better than the field in a $200 tourney. Neither am I.
So your best bet is probably to grind it out. If you never made 6k before, it's retarded to think that you can just start all of a sudden and make it.

Why do you think you can win money playing poker? I assume you have limited PokerTracker data to support a projected win rate, else your bankroll wouldn't be $1,000. It is very rare that some one with a modest bank roll just out of college can justifiably expect to beat the on-line games for big bucks. It could happen, but I would not plan on it.
Best advise - go get a real job. You paid big bucks and years of work getting a college degree. Use it. On-line poker is not a place to be risking your last $1,000 especially with the harsh whoring environment.

Forum: Bonus Whores | I am of the opinion that you are better off playing in some of the donkier lower buyin tournaments. I would avoid throwing half of your $1000 at a big event. That is too much gambling for your bankroll. Hit up tournaments from $22 up to an occasional $55. If you have a big hit in one of those events THEN parlay it into a Sunday Special. If you play non holdem games the tournaments are even softer IMO. O8 and Stud8 tournaments can have soft players and also tend to be far less taggy.
