If you go online and watch where people come from on Bodog, Party, Paradise and Stars you will see that most of them will come from the US. On Crypto most of them will be British. On Prima and Bestpoker/24H a large number will be Swedes. And we're only 9 million people here...
How often do you come across a Russian? A Spaniard? An Italian? A french? A German? Someone from Argentina? South Africa? And then there will be a HUGE boom with players from Asia. They are crazy for betting in South East Asia and they will eventually become online poker players when they get internet connections. There are also one billion Indians (the Asian variant) and even more Chinese...

I mean, after all - all the players at $5/10 and above come from somewhere, right? Either they were established poker players in B&M casinos before going online, in which case they never were "bottom feeders" themselves. But in most cases, I imagine these players started out playing low limits, and probably weren't winning players from day 1.
I imagine the casinos will always want new customers. And loosing players that are not given a crutch to lean on while learning, are likely to just go bust and never return. Those players will hardly begin to generate rake before they are gone forever.

The first problem in this discussion, is to determine *exactly* what a bonus whore or bonus chaser actually is. I consider anyone who collects poker (& casino - although less relevant in this discussion) bonuses as part of a winning strategy (ie. profit making) to fall into this category. One does NOT need to be a $0.50/$1.00 or 1/2 bottom feeder to qualify as someone who grabs free money. As some of you know, I am actually a 10/20 & 15/30 player mostly on the Party network (which usually causes the "what are you doing here at Prima on the 1/2 tables!!!???). I have been playing at this level long before there was internet poker, and I probably hadn't played a level below 5/10 for years until about 3 years ago online - even though I've been playing online for over 6 years. The purpose for sites to offer bonuses is to attract customers, just like you say. However, they want to attract customers who will stay and play at the site - because they like it enough, and because the offers are good enough to keep them from switching to another site.
This demographic is not the whores (the 1% figure mentioned, if that happens to be somewhat accurate). Sure - every whore will be attracted to the site if it offers a good bonus, but they will not hang around and make the place their new home. They will move on to the next bonus as soon as the current one is cleared.
There are probably a lot more people that are at least somewhat aware of the quality of the offers on their current site, and would compare it to other offers - but they do not have accounts at 20 different poker rooms and jump around clearing bonuses all the time.

One is playing at UB, and the other at Poker Stars. Neither has even considered playing for a bonus. When I told them about bonus whoring and signup reward sites, they looked at me with that familiar blank stare.
These are intelligent guys, both professionals... the idea of playing with a bonus involved never occurred to them.
I think we are a much smaller group than some would have you believe.

I would like it to stick around for awhile.
My job allows for alot of free time to rake hands so its a nice addition to my salary. I dont plan on quitting my job but I almost think that I could. I taught my wife to be a whore and its turning out to be a great job for a stay at home mom. Im also involved in realestate flipping which is my greatest goal for full time...but even that allows for dead times...So I am a whore...and hope to be for many years to come.
