GoldenPalace wins bid to name Bolivian monkey
Online casino operator GoldenPalace has paid US$650,000 for the right to name a newly discovered species of monkey, which will be known forever as the Goldenpalace.com monkey.
GoldenPalace outbid all other candidates and will hope to recoup some of the stunning US$650,000 final bid price in media coverage over the next few weeks.
The formal scientific name for the new species will be Callicebus aureipalatii, but its common name will be recorded for posterity as Goldenpalace.com.
“This species will bear our name for as long as it exists,” Richard Rowe, chief executive of GoldenPalace.com, said.
“Hundreds, even thousands of years from now, the GoldenPalace.com Monkey will live to carry our name through the ages.”
The monkey was discovered in western Bolivia's Madidi National Park by Dr Robert Wallace of the Wildlife Conservation Society.
