Internet Gambling Prohibition Could Be Repealed
US Congress May Decriminalize Internet Gambling
March 15, 2007
Congressman Barney Frank (D-MA), Chair of the House Financial Services Committee, has announced that he is considering a new bill that would repeal the internet gambling ban that was passed last year. As the leading financial services expert in the US House of Representatives, Frank sees the economic potential of legalizing and regulating internet gambling.
At the end of September 2006, one of the last pieces of legislation to be oted on before Congress adjourned for a break was the Security and Accountability For Every (SAFE) Port Act, also referred to as the Port Security Act of 2006. Falling under the heading of Homeland Security, this $400 Million bill was focused on keeping America's seaports safe from nuclear, biological and chemical weapons.

Wow. What a clever and enlightening post. And so helpful. I always listen and respond well to Connect To enthusiasts and Cialis pimps.
Tell me...How many Bible-thumpers in Congress are doing anything to ensure that your no-banner banner farm can stay in business? Or are you making so much money from the predatory lending links and Beyonce lyric links that you don't have to worry?
I won't be sending 10% of my income to any homophobic evangelist mega-church wackjobs...But I do believe I'll send Barney some flowers.

It's certainly good news, but without even a draft of a bill, it's too early to celebrate.
Congressman looking at revoking gambling ban
US Democrat Barney Frank is considering a bill to repeal last year's anti-gambling legislation according to a spokesperson for the congressman, who chairs the House of Representatives Financial Services Committee. Frank's office confirmed that he was considering legislation, but added he had not drafted the bill and had no timetable for legislation.
According to the UK's Financial Times newspaper, Frank called the law the 'stupidest ever passed' and wrote on his website: "I am working on legislation to cut back on this Internet gambling thing.
"I think it's preposterous... maybe we can make some money off it,' he added.

Just as prohibition led to an increase in the power of the mafia, criminalizing, or claiming to have criminalized, online wagering will probably lead to more Americans opening foreign bank accounts to avoid the watchful eye of Big Brother. The big loser will be the U.S. Treasury which stands to lose the ability to monitor big wins and tax them.
