I agree with Jetset - and Kat also wrote a piece on this. There's no guesstimating the alue of the domain name gambling.com.

My two cents worth from the casino side of the fence...
James is right (certainly as far as my tactical marketing is concerned) in underlining the considerable profile of gambling.com with players new to online gambling.
Note I said "players" (not "innocents") new to online gambling. I'm pretty sure that a significant number of experienced online gamblers call in there too.
Our research and some informal survey work indicated to us that a disproportionately high number of these prospective clients did at least part of their homework on gambling.com - and one of the pages there which particularly appealed was Top Sites.
We don't go the pay-for-votes route but nevertheless appeal to our members to register their otes. This is because there is a definite perception-value in achieving good positioning, notwithstanding opinions to the effect that the TopSites list has no cred. due to the ote-paying activity.
The overall objective is always (... | | Read Entire Entry |

I think the idea is that most of those big losers in land-based casinos have not found the internet yet. So the online casinos are fighting hard to attract the attention (and cash) of the big land-based gamblers who have not yet discovered onine casinos.
English Harbour regularly has players who wager over $1 million/month. Presumably attracting just a few such new players would cover the marketing budget for a while.

Martee, you are right and you and I were ery lucky...i got started RIGHT here and at casinomeisters.
James, are people sure these guys make most their profits off the "regular 20%ers"? still seems like most of the marketing strategy is aimed toward the newcomers to me...the "innocents" ??

Yeah and out of those 100 banners. 62 of them are for Golden Palace.
By the way, Pinnace group of casinos is now OPA approved and offering members a 250.00 match play. Even if you have an existing account.

I was gambling on line awhile before I found my first gambling info site. I guess I was lucky because it was www.got2bet.com. The first article I read was Spearmasters warning about a casino called Golden Palace. The info I found on his site was ery aluable. A bonus to try out a new casino?? WOW... I didn't even know they did that!! Different software suppliers??? WOW!!! See Kyla, not EVERYONE knows. And this was just a few months ago. His site led me to a lot of other message boards. Reading the posts of other players helped also, telling which casinos to frequent and which to stay away from by posting their own experiences. People just getting into online gambling may not be as lucky. I do think people are influenced and will play at the places that have banners and are listed as #1 sites thinking they are recommended sites. Until everyone does their homework, the not so good casinos will continue to profit and thrive.

I would assume that they are all looking for naive newcomers. When I first started gambling online almost a year ago, gambling.com, including the topsites poll list, was the first place I looked for new casinos to try.
Now I hardly ever go to gambling.com anymore, because loading 100 animated banners on every d**n page practically shuts down my computer.

ah jeez guys, its his birthday and all today.
just curious, why is it so important to be highly rated in the polls when EVERYONE knows the otes are bought and are worthless toward being a statement about the site itself...why do casinos KEEP paying for the otes? Are there that many people out there that DONT know????

LMAO!
I saw that for the first time yesterday and thought the same thing.
Of course, you might want to bet on a gambling information site for the future LOL.

This has been talked about before, but I just thought I would point out the recent poll results from gambling.com, with some associated news items.
For several months, English Harbour has been paying players for otes, up to $20 if they place first in the poll. EH has been at the top of the polls for four straight months, paying $20/vote. Last month they began only paying for otes if the oter has made a deposit in the past 3 months. They just dropped to second place.
A couple months ago, Pinnace offered $20/vote at Four Aces, and they jumped to the 20s, then up to #5. This month they are #3.
For the August ote, Pinnace also offered money for oting for their free play site, Play4FreeCasino. It went from #171 in July, to #25 in August, to #4 this month.
This last month Pinnace offered cash for oting for 1) 4Aces, 2) Play4Free, and 3) one of four other Pinnace casinos. They are:
Ladies Night: #11, up from #480
Vegas Gold: #15, up from #107
All Hours: #19,... | | Read Entire Entry |
