It's amazing - when it comes to savings most people scrabble around trying to find that extra tenth of a percent one bank will pay over another to give them that measly 3.25% or whatever interest rate. But when it comes to gambling people aren't satisfied until they've doubled, trebled, quadrupled their money or more. Personally, I'm just as happy to walk away with a modest 10 or 20per cent gain on my buy-in when things are choppy, as well as going for the big score when things are going my way. It's amazing how quickly those 10 or 20 per cent wins mount up. And let's face it, if a bank were to pay 10-20 per cent after just a few minutes/hours/days instead of leaving your cash with them for a year, then I think we'd all be queueing up to open accounts!

How about Sic Bo, betting all triples, and hitting about 5 times...lol
It can be done if you get a good streak going, playing $500 a hand at BJ. Double down or splits I guess.
What were you playing Mary? Did you hit a jackpot on slots?

Kengam, that's a great tough luck story but the one to cap it has been on the newswires just this week - this tough luck story was in the Las Vegas Sun:
"WENDOVER -- The State Line hotel-casino said a Utah man missed out on a $7.9 million Megabucks jackpot because he was playing with just two coins instead of the required three.
The casino is in Northern Nevada on the Utah border.
The gambler, Kirk Tolman, 22, Pleasant Grove, won $10,000 on the $1 slot machine with the two-coin bet.
"I always play 'max' coins, but I was talking to my friend and wasn't paying attention," Tolman said in a casino press... | | Read Entire Entry |

Now CCAAAASSSSHHHH OOOUUUTTTT!!! BTW, this wasn't at the same casino, was it?
I had $700 in Queens Club, but for some reason, they had never sent me the code in the mail. I had all the casino codes except that one!!! Well, it took a week to get it...etc.
I've confessed. Do you think it will help get that $700 back?

Confession must be good for the bankroll, or perhaps the gremlins (Little People that emigrated to America) like me today, for I have won my way back up to that $20k. It is sitting there. I am reminding myself of how much fun I can have in Vegas with my mom next month. She's an engineer, and we can tour the city for earthquake safety. Imagine being stuck up on top of the Strat.
Funny, I never turn up upside down anywhere.
NOW IF I BLOW THIS I HAVE TO TELL ALL YOU GOOD PEOPLE AND THEN I WILL NEVER HEAR THE END OF IT.

I don't gamble for greed, per se. My gambling money is always kept separate from my "real" money, and every gambling win means more aciton to me. I think I play more for the feeling of "breaking the rules of daily life"--getting something for nothing--though as a strategic gambler who likes to practice strategies etc. it's more a way of keeping score on how good I am at an intellectual pursuit. The way to keep from giving a good score back is to remind myself what I could get for it in Vegas--that $20k is really bugging me because I literally could have had weeks of fun, free meals, nice hotel room, shows, etc. out of it. You'll notice taht it's just being thought of as another form of gambling fun--I don't think of it as a car, a computer or two (hmmm...), college tuition, cat food, jewelry, acation in the Bahamas (waitaminnit...)
Oboy, I hate myself now. I really hate myself now. I wasn't even *enjoying* watching that balance go down. I wasn't even *dressed*.

Kengam,
I know, I know, ALWAYS play 5 coins in and 98% of the time I do. But I was forced to play 50 cent denomination and I took the chance since I didn't have a big bank roll to start with.

Vickinz, I play BJ mostly. I just act more risky on small deposits, sometimes it pays, but not always of cause. When I deposit $25 I could bet $25 on my 1st hand, but never $1,000 if I deposit a grand.

Did you ever consider that the whole basis for gambling is greed? It is the attempt to get something for nothing. We walk (or click) into the casino knowing that the house has a mathematical advantage at every game, and we do it anyway.
I have a logical mind and more than average will power, and still I get caught up in the excitement of possibly winning something for nothing. So join the club.

I never play VP without playing the max credits. The house advantage goes way up when you don't play max coins. Anyone ever hit a big progressive only to realize that you werent playing max coins?

I don't feel so bad now. I was playing at a casino that the lowest denomination is 50 cents at 5 coins in for VP makes it $2.50 and I usually try to stick with the quarter VP. So anyway, I end up hitting 4 Dueces in DW (when I only had $25 left out of my big $50 I had deposited) and had played 4 coins for $400 bucks. I was ecstatic! Well, I increased to $2.50 again and somehow, lost all of it. I just kept calling myself a flippin idiot all night!

I used to have much more willpower 3 years ago when I just started to gamble online. At that time a $100 deposit was a big thing for me.
I recall I used to mail my personal check to Crypto, then I was able to play and and wait till my check was cleared, that's about 2 months all together.

it's funny how long it takes to build up 500-1000 of winnings (with a small deposit like 200-500)
yet if you reverse it you can often lose all that in a matter of seconds
(i guess it isn't funny...it's just plain mean)

Colly,
There are time when I wish I didn't have DSL. It's kind of futile for me to delete the file when I can reload the software in 2 min.
All I'm trying to do is slow myself down so I can THINK about why I should leave the money where it is. Right now I have two pretty massive cash-ins sitting.
If you are really serious about the disconnecting the hard drive thing, what you COULD do is get a mobile rack for the HDD (hard disk drive). You could unplug the HDD and give it to a friend or lock it in a safety deposit box at the bank until cash-ins are process.
Actually, maybe all we need is just A LITTLE WILLPOWER. <G>
Good luck to you all. Just wanted to share my misery.

DaiLun,
used practically the same method last time I got a royal- wiped the casino from my hard disk, backup etc and disconnected the computer!- It was won on a Sunday and they dont process till Wednesday. (Please post instructions on how to disconnect the hard drive!!!!)
Luckily my computer is so damn slow at downloads that having to start from scratch curbed the "impulse".
Thanks all of you- knowing that the sensible also occasionally blow it makes me feel a little better now! (but only a little)

Hitting the cashout button is the hardest part of gambling. And not hitting the reverse cashin button is the second hardest.

OK. Bad, bad news. I hope this is the absolute worst. One of the casinos I play at doesn't process cash-ins on the weekend. So, on the weekend your money can sit for up to 60 hours, gently calling your name. The money just sits there. I had $12K sitting there waiting. Yep, I cashed it in and lost it all. Boy, did I feel fu***ng stupid. (OK, you can all kick me once).
Good news is that I went to the other casino I play at and ran $1K back into 18K, and I promptly deleted the software, the download file, turned off the computer, removed the hard drive and locked it in my safe for 24 hours.
I think it's time to find another hobby.

A Personal Confession:
I suck, have always sucked, and continue to suck (with no relief in sight) at all games of chance. I really should reconsider why I play at all. Anyone have insight? And please don't tell me I just suck...I'm quite aware of this situation. The good news is that I only suck about $25 a month. YEP!...I'm a high roller!

Oh goody,
I've found a place to bitch and moan about my stupidity, and do it with people who are sympathetic. I cashed out $300 at Grand Hotel, then reversed it and blew it all up. The thing is that a few days before that I had cashed out $250 at Vegas Palms, then reversed $150, and cashed out $1100. I did manage to take out $900 on that deal.
Why I thought I could do that again, I do not know. I wasn't thinking, that was the problem. Oh well...
Dave,
Greed may not be ok, but that doesn't seem to have any effect when I have my itchy finger poised over the clicker. Tell me what I can do about that.

Original Mary: thanks for sharing that; you are so sensible and clear thinking that it's good to know you can sometimes "get carried away" too!
Well, I am truly ASHAMED. My son and I both won prizes in The Pig Contest at Powerbet yesterday. I trebled my $25 then lost it all. I then deposited another $100 as I was having such fun - lost that straight! He played his prize up to $312, but felt a bit sorry for me so said I could play $100 of his win...well ya know what happened - I lost the whole $312 too!
I just love the speed and fairness (overall) of RTG software and so often I have been up hundreds only to lose it all back in minutes! Think I will have to "go on the wagon" for a few weeks, as my gambling behaviour is stoooooopid!

Then they took away my Bonus Abuser license.
Do I hate myself? Yep! Could've gotten a week's worth of play, hotel, meals, limo for that in Vegas! And a couple of t-shirts! Lots of little soaps!
Hot fudge sundaes! The best are now at Roxy's in the Stratosphere, they make their own fudge.

I think greed is ok only when you're way ahead of the game, not just at one particular casino, but overall. If you get greedy after you've lost, it can be disasterous. But after some decent wins at several casinos, there's nothing wrong with going for a major win.
This paid off for me bigtime after taking 200 to 3000. I got greedy and started betting 500 ties at baccarat. SO I lost 2500 and then finally the tie came in. Then I made another couple thousand.

1. $3,010 on a $25 deposit - Prestige;
2. $200 on a $10 oting bonus - Sands;
Yet I managed to cashout this:
1. $500 on a $20 deposit - Intercasino
2. $540 on a $25 deposit - Kiwi
3. $740 on a $25 - RiverBoat
Wins on big deposits are not included.
