This is how unbelievable the 'other' side of the bonus abuse argument sounds. This would never be done at land casinos but is now routinely done with online casinos.

This is done all the time in B&M casinos once they tag you as an advantage player. It is a common occurence when counting cards and can happen occasionally for VP and even slot play.

You are correct Slotski. Online casinos have nowhere near the overhead of even a small midwest casino. The fact is that they just don't know what they are doing when it comes to structuring bonuses, and when they end up with a loss at the end of the month, they blame the player for following the rules.

If a casino offers a $100 bonus every month to any account, and I only play the bonus terms and then cash out, many of these guys would classify me as an abuser, even though I followed the rules that they set forth. This is due only to a lack of calculations on their part, and when they come out negative at the end of it all, the only thing they can do is cry wolf and freeze accounts.

The way they do it is rediculous anyway. Let's see, in today's mail I have a bonus offer from Treasure Island...Play $50 and get $20 free (40% - pretty good). What do I have to do to qualify? Wager the $50 FIRST, and then collect the bonus. What would they do if I only came to their establishment and wager...

Prosperity you are so right. When the land based casinos get online, it will be the death knell for sooooo many of the current batch. (although the Nevada Senate did not pass the bill today, d.mnit.)
As far as the large upfront bonuses offered by many online casinos, i still cannot understand why so many go under even with these bonuses. They are usually only for first time depositers and besides, HOW MUCH OVERHEAD CAN AN ONLINE CASINO REALLY HAVE, as compared to say Bellagio?
Am i all wrong, or are many of these casinos so-called financial problems caused more by their own greed than by the evil bonus abusers (who are smart enough and self-disciplined enough to use bonuses to their advantage per the casinos OWN TERMS.)

Prosperity,

You don't Know what your missing?!? I have approximately 55 slot club cards.

Over the years, I've narrowed it down to the 5 or 6 casinos that treat me the best.

The difference being that online casinos offer "front side comps" or bonus money that is much more lucrative (than land based casinos comps) and therfore tempting. One casino group that I used to play online with regularly runs a 20-40% match comp. Heck, if I got that in Vegas I'd be there every weekend!

Both sides of the bonus abuser argument have alid points. At the end of the day I believe the casino's intention is to get you to try their casino by offering an incentive. That's a cost of acquisition. After that the other forms of customer relationship management need to function in order to keep the player. A decent support team is ery high on that list.

It's probably getting to the point that the casinos need to come up with some other ways to keep them. Land based casinos can give meals, rooms etc but online ones can't.

Just what they can use to replace the meals etc is something I'm still trying to solve.

I agree with you, tedm, but some casinos classify this sort of player as a bonus abuser anyway for reasons of their own.

In many cases inexperienced casino managements have flown unwise and sub-economic promos and then tried to dishonestly repudiate their own rules when they were burned.

I believe that if these operations feel "betrayed" by players who only gamble at their sites on promos but who do so strictly and completely to the rules which they (the casinos) devise then they should develop systems which enable them to direct their promos exclusively to the clientele who do play on other occasions as well.

But I think the main objective of promos in any case is to lure new players to the site, which loyalty programs can only do to a certain extent.

Whatever, the bonus issue is a deeply divisive one which IMO often causes more harm than good to player-casino relationships.

I have mixed feelings about this topic. MY understanding is that if the terms and conditions are adhered to then no promotion abuse has taken place. Indeed, if a player were to play ONLY when promotions take place and to wager the exact minimum needed then I would think that he/she is a disciplined and smart player.

Note that 1) I don't have this discipline and 2) I actually look at gambling as a gambling not a form of second income but I do wonder what your thoughts are on this topic.
