Gambling is funny. I go to AC. I pay for a hotel room about the same per night that you guys play per hand.

Then I go deep sea fishing and some scuba diving for the equivilant of another coupld of your one hand betting amounts for a couple days and still have money left over.

BUT Then again I don't get my food free.

Thought about Harrah's. I fly National Airlines on occasion, which can exchange points with Total Rewards - and also considered the Rio.

Harrah's biggest problem - they are almost always full

My hubby and I have stayed at Harrah's for the last 3 years in a row. (Family reunion there each summer) We had, at first, the Gold Card, then were moved up (this year) to the Platinum card. We stay 4 nights each time. Room rate $169.00 Fri/Sat-$90.00 Sun thru Thurs. At check out we are given the credits towards our room. Hubby plays mostly tables, hands card over to pit guy, he notes number and hands it back. I play VP and slots. Mostly .25 ideo poker and occassionally bar VP for 1.00. We have never paid more then $20.00 at check out for the room and all meals were always paid for by Casino with "food credit" chits. Harvey's, from what I understand from other relatives, has the same deal. Within a month after returning from trip we always get a Comp room letter for maybe two months from then sometimes later. We turn these comps over to the kids who (Casino never said no to them) stay there during the wintertime for snow boarding trips. They don't even gamble. Maybe you should try these guys o...

By the way, another casino to avoid is the Imperial Palace in Biloxi, MS.

I heard that the comps are harder to come by in the Gulf area - but realistically they cannot be too far off of the Vegas rating scale.

I booked into a jacuzzi suite at $138 knowing fully well I would have to work a bit harder to earn the comps there.

I played some 30 hours of Fortune Pai Gow Poker at an average bet of $15, plus a few hours of blackjack, Caribbean Stud and Three Card Poker.

At the end of the trip (3 nights), I asked them to clear my account.

They said they could not cover even a SINGLE night - and I threw a total hissy fit.

Turns out the system is designed to give you FOOD comps, and not ROOM comps, even though I had told them in advance that I was NOT interested in food comps.

I finally got them to give me one night and discount the remaining two to $79/night, but not until after I threatened the casino host.

I later found out that I could ha...

It still has a better return than slots, and that's for sure.

I know it's 5% LOL. So you can see that my numbers are deliberately LOW - and STILL I did not get what I was entitled to. I didn't want to use high numbers in case no casino actually uses that high of an edge in their comp system - but for sure the Sahara doesn't and it pissed me right off.

Why do I play it? Actually, the question should be "Why DID I play it?" since I will no longer be playing the game, at least not this trip.

It was entertaining. And I was willing to take a risk at losing a pile in hopes of winning an even bigger pile. Same with Fortune Pai Gow Poker - and every time I do this the Wiz tel...

One quick question Spearmaster.

Isn't it true that if you're being rated properly, when the shift change takes place, you continue to be logged in?

Or do they start over from scratch?

Spearmaster, I apologize for my rush to judgement regarding the comps at the Sahara.
Your calculations are without a doubt right.
Using Henry Tambourin's forumula, which is the industry standard for most casinos in Vegas and Atlantic City, the comps are calculated as follows:

1) Avg # of hands per hour x Avg amount bet =
Total action per hour.
2) Total action x house edge = Total casino take per hour
3) 40% of the casino's take is given back to the player in COMPS.

In your case you played approx 30 hands per hour, and made an average bet of $50. You gave them 1500 in action. 3% of 1500 is $45, and 40% of that = $18. Right on the money, Spearmaster.

Actually the house edge for that game is around 5%, which makes me wonder why someone like you would ever play that game, but than again you are not a regular gambler, and on your occasional acation, I can't blame you for playing a ery fun game with the possibility of a huge win. Dave -

I have stayed there about 8 times in the last three years. I know all the pitbosses and many of the dealers. I was introduced to the Sahara by one of the slots managers, Bill Bailey.

I know this hotel inside and out. I know what's new, what's old, what's good and what's bad.

The slots are good.

The comps at table games are CRAP. The floor managers often miss ENTIRE SHIFTS without logging me in, even though I have not left the table for 48 consecutive hours once, 30 hours another time, never less than 10-12 hours.

On the last two trips, I reminded every shift manager to make sure I was logged in - and their response was "Not only do I have you logged in, I am rating you higher than you are actually playing" (they are nice people, don't get me wrong).

On the last two trips, never played less than a quarter at blackjack (and that was exactly once for exactly one hour). Played Deuces Wild Hold 'Em Fold 'Em, knowing fully well I was rated...

Haha Craig's a spammer.

As far as The Sahara goes, why do you continually bash it, Spearmaster?
I've gotten some decent comps there, and the customer service is quite good. Nice low limit BJ games.

I'm amazed that in your online casino review articles, you make a lot of comparisons to land based operations, especially Sahara, and always point out that you play the most $$$ of anyone at these tables, and yet they give you no comps for it.

I beg to differ.

P.S. Sands and Showboat in AC have sent me $100 match play coupons month after month after month. Both casinos allow you to split these matchplays into smaller denominations.

Hey SMOKESPADRONS: Didn't read this thread again until now. I know for sure that recent ones have said "existing players" as someone didn't have it on their email, and I told them mine did. I didn't look for the "email recipients only" but pals who didn't get email sometimes had no problems.

I've sometimes miss getting Vegas Strip newsletters, while my kids do. Probably just accidental, unless you've NOT been getting all the recent 100% bonus offers. If not, check with them as it might be the bulk mailer that's at fault.

I've had all payments played to last Wednesday approved, and email saying checks being despatched, with several hundred going back to my card, within the normal timeframe, which has always been about 3 - 4 weeks in my part of the world. The bonus is now added credited ery quickly...it used to take ages before.

I will consider this offer ONLY AND ONLY if it is offered at a RTG or Starnet casino where the games are fair AND fast. Playing 600K at Boss Media will take 2 months since their games are so slow and playing 30X at Microgaming is near impossible since their games are so rigged. You will be VERY VERY LUCKY if you don't lose your ass at a 4X promo at a Microgaming casino.
Tedm, if this is a real bonus please email me the info.

Thank You

AceKingClub does have fairly high wagering requirements, but as tedm points out the bonuses are decent, and they are a fair operation IMO (and they are a Boss Site, so there is no problem getting paid).

I can't blame them for wanting to protect themselves. They can't just give money away.

But 10X for a 10% bonus is pushing it a bit. Don't get me wrong, many times I play more than 10X, but sometimes after I've won a few hundred dollars after wagering 5 or 6 times, I do quit playing. I mean why gamble if you don't win every now and then?

IMO, having such a high wagering requirement probably scares off more business than it brings in.

From my experience AceKingClub generally offers a 20% bonus with 4 or 6X playthrough. That is fairly good.

The only problem is that the BJ is quite slow on the multi-player Boss Media.

Makes perfect sense. Although I don't play at your level, my play is typically good enough for room at mid-to-upper level casinos (anywhere from $25 to $100). Board also if I play long enough (I usually do).

The Sahara is a crap place to earn comps, though. You can sit there and play $50 average at a dumb game like Wild Hold 'Em Fold 'Em (good entertainment, huge house edge) and they will give you practically nothing for that. So I will use up what few comps I have left there and move to the better part of town next trip.

I rarely play VP - until next trip. I think I am going to try to stay off the tables completely this trip and see what happens...

Couldn't agree more. But which casinos in Vegas will give away the coupons? I know Taj Mahal (and presumably all the Trump casinos, at least) in AC do.

And what are you playing? Never heard of cashback on a table game...

In AC, I play ideo poker, as I don't really like playing 8 deck and 6 deck BJ. Unfortunately, the selection of AC VP isn't ery good.

In LV I play a mix of handheld blackjack and ideo poker. You are correct that no cashback is offered for table games. BTW, this is one area that online casinos beat B&M casinos--they offer cashback on their table games.

While my bet size in blackjack is usually enough for me to get limited room and food at the nicer properties, I also like to play VP in order to get future offers. I seem to get more offers from $1.00 VP play than from my blackjack play--even though my average bet at blackjack is ~ $100 to $125.

Most of the bounce back coupons come from AC. Again you are correct about ...

Hmm, now *this* is interesting. For the first time in months I did not get a tuesday offer from TVS, and I saw another poster who did not receive a bonus offer as well. But they did run one yesterday? It would appear they are becoming selective about who gets it. Vick, did the email say "only to the recipients of this email" or was it the standard "to our exising players" language? Thanks!

Wager 11 G's for a 100 bucks??? What's wrong with that??

This one ranks right up there with my all time worst...

This sounds like an AceKingClub deal. Is it???

Edit: Nope, it's Cali Casino and has a 25 bonus max!!! Even more sad than I thought.

Simpson,

Certainly we all have our opinions. A bonus does you no good if you don't get paid when you win.

I do think it is important to be a good consumer though. I like to gamble, and I don't mind losing, but I do expect some "rewards" for my action.

Some online casinos don't give bonuses, but do give cashback. But in most cases their cashback is really piss poor (.1% at best).

If I play in Las Vegas or Atlantic City, I not only get all my meals and room free of charge, I also get cashback at a rate of ~.30% to .50%. In addition, I usually get extra bonus coupons worth $100 to $200 each month from B&M casinos. I also enjoy gambling in a B&M casino much more than at an online casino.

And, of course, I never have to worry that I've been cheated by a land based casino.

So this is what online casinos are up against. Consumers like me. Opening an online casino and doing what they should already be doing (paying, good CS, fair games) is...

so why not play where you have good customer service and you think the games are "fair"

Here's why:

many casinos offer

1. great bonuses
2. good customer service
3. fast payments

So I see no reason to play at any casino without a bonus, even if they do have good customer service.

I'm willing to give lots of action, but a casino has to "show me the money". Other casinos will just have to keep up or lose my business and the business of others because----no bonus, no Dirk.

Hell even land based casinos give bonuses in the form of cashback and bounce back coupons. I'd have to be a fool to play at any online casino that gave me nothing in return, when I can motor down to the Taj Mahal and get the treatment I deserve.
