This credit card thing is changing so fast it may need its own board.
I just received an email from NextCard announcing a new rewards program. It costs $19 per year to join and includes air travel within the continental US or from California to Hawaii for 25,000 points. You earn one point for every dollar spent. They did not provide many details.
I have a NextCard Visa, but I have never used it. I got paid to apply for it so I took the money. There was no need to use it when I got goodies from my other cards.
Does anyone out there have experience with NextCard, good or bad?

Back a few years ago, I made thousands of dollars in deposits to Crytologic sites with regular credit cards, and was charged an enormous amount in cash advance fees by arious cards. Crypto could not help me to get any of this money back.
But after Crypto took over 10% ownership in a credit card processing company, all the cash advance fees stopped.

THANK YOU TRADER!
The info on this thread is extremely profitable. I hope more users will post thier experiences with credit cards that accrue mileage and/or cashback. In your example above, you state that $35,000 in deposits to Webdollar will earn you enough miles from your credit card company to give you a free trip from mainland US to Hawaii. I could kick myself for not using a credit card that accrued miles. At that time, I simply did NOT believe in gambling with credit cards at all, and simply paid by debit card (with VISA or MASTER logo) so as to avoid costly cash advance fees. The other reason was I did not believe in gambling with someone else's money. I was concerened about losing self-discipline, and losing much more $$$ than I could afford to lose. I like being stuck with a set limit, and once I go over that amount for the week/month, I am forced into quitting.
But had I known that there are several credit cards(mileage/cashback) out there that DO NOT charge cash advance fee... | | Read Entire Entry |

I hope no one thinks I have attempted a hostile takeover of this thread.
Today my GM Mastercard from Household International was denied approval at PayPal. They have confirmed that they will not approve a purchase for online gambling. Too bad, they pay me 5% of a purchase toward the pruchase of a new GM car, up to $500 per year accumulating for up to 7 years. It used to be $1000 per year. They have already saved me $5000 on new cars.
As of last week, it was still accepted at Cryptologic. Let's keep this our little secret.

Float is a common financial term to describe the ability to use someone else's money legally. That is one of the reasons many casinos pay so slowly.
When I make a purchase by credit card I do not have to make a payment until 25 days after it is billed. If I make a Visa purchase at a Webdollar casino on the 18th of the month when I know my credit card billing date is the 17th, I know it will not even be billed until the following month. From that date I have 25 days to pay it without any interest being charged. Since Webdollar gets the payout to me in about a week, I will have use of that money for about six weeks, interest free. Even if I break even, I win a little.
Back when interest rates were ery high in the 1980's I had two money market accounts, one on the East Coast and one on the West Coast. I could send a $50,000 check from one to the other and have the same $50,000 earning interest in both accounts at the same time for about 7 days per month. I earned about $100 extra per mon... | | Read Entire Entry |

I know this may be a little confusing to some because credit cards are misunderstood my many people. My proof: 67% of Americans do not pay off their credit cards and carry a balance every month. The difference is a matter of paying up to 21% interest or 0% on new purchases.
The credit card rebates I get whether frequent flyer miles or cash are cancelled out if a credit is applied to the card. Credit card use for gambling is not a good idea if you have to pay a cash advance fee plus interest on the cash advance. For Webdollar, Cyrptologic, and PayPal my cards are billed as purchases. For Firecash and most other cash processors they are billed as cash advances. I always use a debit card rather than a credit cards to avoid those charges.
Cryptologic does refund to the credit card, so the only advantage of using a credit card there is the float.
Webdollar always sends a check(or wire), so you do get to keep the goodies from the credit card.
With Paypal, even if the purcha... | | Read Entire Entry |

Trader -- if you make, say, a $1000 purchase and there is later a $1000 credit, do you still get the frequent flyer points?
Personally, I have only the highest possible praise for Bank of America, which recently gave me a free t-shirt.
I still don't understand why.
I was in the Philadelphia Airport and some guy asked me to fill in what seemed to be an application form, but which did not ask enough questions to actually be one.
He then gave me a choice between a stuffed bear wearing a pilot's uniform an a t-shirt saing "US Airways Dividend Miles -- Bank of America" and a picture of their VISA.
I took the t-shirt because I already sleep with a stuffed teddy bear (and have ever since I discovered they have among the lowest AIDS rates in the States).

If you get the United Mileage Plus card and give them my Mileage Plus account number, I will get 5000 frequent flyer miles. They have a lot of other cards, some without annual fee. If you use the card a lot you can get as many as 50,000 miles per year with a $60 annual fee which they waive if you threaten to cancel and have a good payment history. I would be happy to email my account number, but I don't want to post it on this board.
I thought I was going to have to unrecommend them after my card was denied at PayPal this weekend. It turned out to be a temporary fraud block because I was using it so much lately. I just called and explained that it really was me. It works just fine with PayPal now.
First USA is a little touchy right now about internet use. It seems they were the merchant bank for CyberRebate.com which went bankrupt sticking customers with $89 million in claims. First USA is taking the hit and has promptly credited my account for $4000 of that. They are taking customer p... | | Read Entire Entry |

Their web site is indeed www.firstusa.com. I have a toll free number for the US 866-722-6789 for applications. Also customer service for when you are out of US is 847-888-6600(collect).
Miles earned are good on many other airlines including Air Canada, Lufthansa, Singapore Air, SAS, and Thai Airways.

They won't take cash at a local office, so forget the wheelbarrow of Golden Palace chips.
With the downturn in the markets they will take almost any other form of payment.
Also, my Schwab debit card has always been accepted at online casinos, so why bother with PayPal? Schwab also accepts ACH transfers from casinos that offer that option.

You might also try the PNC Bank debit card that comes with a Charles Schwab "Schwab One" brokerage account. It is especially good if you reach the "Signature Services Platinum" level. You get almost 24/7 access to people who can actually handle any problems the first time you call.
First, get a million dollars. Second, bring it to a Schwab Office. You can also reach that level with a smaller account if you trade a lot. I think the minimum is 50 per year.
Apolgies to Steve Martin.

First USA did have some ery serious problems in the past. They have now been taken over by Bank One which was formed by the merger of Bank One(Columbus, OH) and First Chicago(guess where).
My account was originaly with First Chicago. The only mistake I have had on my account in 14 years is that they forgot to bill me the annual fee one year, so I did not have to threaten to cancel that year.
I do not doubt that you had a problem with First USA in the past. Customer problems were one of the reasons they were taken over. It does seem that you got a more than satisfactory result in the end.
I also want to be clear that I use First USA only for PayPal, not for direct purchases at casinos. They do treat those as cash advances.

You might also want to try First USA. I have their United Airlines Mileage Plus card and also get paid in frequent flyer miles to use it. They waive the $60 annual fee everytime I threaten to cancel it. I have not paid for my own airfare since 1991. Right now I have enough miles for two tickets to Hawaii, a timeshare on Maui, and a dislike for midwestern winters.
They will also pay me 5,000 miles to recruit you, not that I would let that sway my judgement.
