I also think that this is something that would be more effectively handled at the level of the software companies or e-commerce providers. After all, it would be an unusual effort for someone with a real problem to get banned at every microgaming casino they have an account at, to say nothing of all the others they could download should they have a relapse. However, if the player could automatically ban themselves from all microgaming casinos, or all firecash casinos, for example, it could immediately take place at all of their current casinos as well as the ones they do not yet have an account at. I'm sure it would require a bit of programming, but would go a long way in terms of public perception of the operation.
Also, I aguely recall a company here in the states announcing that they had developed a software product to monitor player habbits and to search for problem gamblers. It was a few months back so I do not recall who the company was or what the particular details of their software was... | | Read Entire Entry |

This is a ery serious subject that spearmaster has brought forward.
The IGC has a 'helping hands' banner that their member casinos can display. So if they are serious about helping problem gamblers then self-banning should be a part of this program.
If the OPA decide to pursue this path then I would suggest you contact Stanley's first. They have knowledge of how this works from their land based UK casinos, so I would suspect they would be the most likely to assist.

Lasseters has the option of self banning.
Taken from their website:
"Lasseters Online cares about patrons who isit and play at our site, sometime players do not realise that they may be spending above their means.
For this reason, Lasseters have enabled the option for a Player to exclude themselves from the site for a period of seven (7) days. If a player excludes themselves three times in the life of the account they will be banned from playing indefinitely.
To be able to exclude yourself you need to be signed in first."

eze,
I would imagine that self banning programs are useless, for the most part, whether you are in Washington state or anywhere else. I could hardly imagine being self-banned from any of the Atlantic City casinos and being actually blocked from play. In fact, I am more than possitive that I would still be able to walk right through the front doors and sit at any table or machine for as long as I wanted. Even people who are known cheats and watched closely by all casinos can still slip in from time to time, much less a nobody who just doesn't want to be allowed to play. And, again, I am more than confident that if I had a gambling addiction (which is the only reason I would ever need to self ban), knowing the casino had placed me on the ban list would still not be enough to keep me a way. It's a good idea, but needs a lot of refinement, and short of implementing full biometrics, I just don't see an effective way of doing so. From technology and practical iews, this is one area where online casin... | | Read Entire Entry |

I think this womans problem is not the fact she is from Stanwood. I think it's more the fact that the State Of Washington hands out gambling licenses like candy. I will give everyone who is out of state a little background on the problem.
We have the Tribal Gaming, and the Mini-Casinos. Mini-Casinos have all games except slots, VP, dice games, roulette. If you have money and a clean background you can open your own Mini-Casino. (I hear the place up the road is for sale, $500k cash)
The state has thier little meetings on TV monthly and they complain that they don't want this to turn into Las Vegas. I live right at the edge of Seattle (South), there are 7 Mini-Casinos (that I can think of) within 5 miles (there are over 100 casinos in the state). If you have a gambling problem here and you ask to be banned it is totally useless. There is always another place up the road, or a new one opening soon. The state has lost control and I put most of the blame on them.
To make all the... | | Read Entire Entry |

LOL...
Re: credit cards, I think Mastercard is still a possibility - just that you don't get refunds to that card. For some people closing their Visa accounts is not an option.
Discover is nice but only works in the US, if I'm not mistaken - so for "foreigners" this is also not an option, though I suspect they have similar localized cards which may serve the purpose.
There must be a way to make this work somehow.

Don,
What a nice man. I hope you thanked him properly. He is just one of many kind and generous online casino operators I have "met".
I try to give them all the "credit" they deserve.

An easy way to end your own online gamblling problem would be to close all your Visa accounts and just use MasterCard or Discover for credit. They seem determined to end online gambling for all of us.

Netclub casino has the best program of self barring. Just send an e-mail to them saying that you have some concerns you want to ask about before depositing and you will be barred faster then you know it.
"Dear Don
As you had previously stated your (rather ague) concerns about NetClubCasino, we understood that you were no longer interested in Membership at NetClubCasino, your account was closed and I apologise if you have received any promotional offers since then, I will make sure this does
not happen again.
I wish you luck wherever you decide to play, and would like to remind you that you won US$*** while you were a member of NetClubCasino.com.
Sincerely
Phillip Kennedy

Here's an interesting - kind of sad - story about a mother's attempt to ban herself at a number of local casinos.
http://www.heraldnet.com/Stories/01/8/26/14188543.cfm
Here is an idea for the OPA to work on - getting their member casinos to allow self-banning.
Although it is a bit useless when there are probably more than a thousand casinos online at this moment, someone's got to take the first step. I know that New Jersey has a policy to allow self-banning in place, and I suspect Nevada will consider something similar if there isn't already something in place.
But as far as I know, there is no such thing online (though when I asked Golden Palace to ban me in protest against their actions, they duly did so - probably a good thing for both sides).
-->edit - self-banning oneself? Banning ones' self might have been a bit less redundant... I gotta get some sleep!
