xzzx,
Yours is a cautionary tale we need to hear...and to heed.
Thank you for the warning. All the best to you as you start to rebuild your life.

My land casino friend had a sympathetic family, so after ague suicide attempts (that only I knew about), he wasted yet another 2.5 years and another $15,000 of debt on gambling. He's starting to wake up and has not indulged for 2 mths because he's got no money. Had he not have such a kindly family, maybe he would have been forced to face reality sooner.
He did ban himself for 2 years, didn't die from the "disease"! He should have rebanned himself immediately but became delusional about winning big. I've observed that often ego is a factor, some thinking that they will come up with a system beating all the other great brains who have pondered this.
Having been involved with those severely disabled and/or in agonising pain, I think it a pity that so many conditions are now labelled "disease" as it trivialise true suffering usually not brought on by those afflicted.
We all make mistakes; one can learn more from them than when things go right. If we don't suffe... | | Read Entire Entry |

"Thanks ery much, that you never jumped down my throught like a few others saying that its my fault nad that i had no controll.. im going to try and build my life again."
Sorry, but it is your fault and you DONT have control. Thats a pretty obvious fact. If you keep denying that, you will never get over your addiction. It may be an addiction, but you started it yourself.

Find another addiction.
Walk away sir.
Even if you won MILLIONS you would not stop, would you.
As a cigarette addict I seem to be lucky.
It doesn't destroy my whole family while I indulge in it.
If you can, put it back together, be more selfish and determined than the addiction.
This one really is your call.

There was a thread begun by another player who had lost $35,000 in 5 mths, just 2-3 weeks ago (think name was "so").
I posted about the suicides, crime and bankruptcies that has occurred in the 6+ years since land casino was opened here. A young millionaire acquaintance won $250,000 in one night; then lost double that not long after. He banned himself for 2 years, but has lost around that again, so has banned himself again. He knows he can afford it, but is smart enough to know that he will lose all if he does not. So you are wise to recognise that stopping is the only thing you can do.
I suggest that you get rid of your credit cards, or your pc, or if not possible, then obtain software that stops casino software being downloaded onto your pc. It's too hard to stop on your own without taking ALL precautions. Make it easier on yourself!
My sons know to take away this pc once I begin losing (overall) online. I'm now more disciplined re land casino (just taking in $10-1... | | Read Entire Entry |

I agree gambling can be a problem depending on the individual. I disagree with your statement that it could happen to anyone. Many personalities are less prone to have gambling problems.
The fact that your were a succussful business man probably means you are highly competitive, which unfortunately can be a bad quality when gambling. Competitve players often chase losses.
