"A nearby dogtrack is about to open unlimited (I've heard, but expect a table limit) poker rooms which will cost a lot less, and probably be more enjoyable."

This is a much better option than wagering slots.

hawkeye, you're making a number of foolish assumptions, but you made one correct statement - the moment you started to play, you were a loser. That's ALWAYS the case with gambling, online and in the real world. It's ENTERTAINMENT. You might win a bit one session, but you'll most certainly lose it back and then some in the end. There are a number of onlein casinos that are licensed and regulated by legitmate authorities (isle of man, gibraltar, etc.) and their BJ should be fair, as well as their VP.

Do a bit more research, and play some better games - eg VP or BJ. The more you learn about how to best play them, the more fun you'll have online.

Why slots? Why not...it's all controlled by software -> their software. Whether poker, slots, ideo poker, craps, roulette, or any other casino game online, it's all software and controlled by the code. My effort was to determine if playing online was alid, which I now believe it not to be, but rather a con game disguised as gambling.

As far as probability, an experienced black jack player might be able to project long term payout based on the short run, but I never really liked the game, have little experience, and couldn't make an educated projection.

In relation to random, the play would certainly be based on a random number generator, probably seeded with a random ariable to prevent recognizable patterns. Now, the actual result may be manipulated with code in any manner possible conceived. My bet would be that it checks the end result of a random number selection, and then alters it if it meets criteria not to the casino's profit. I lost the minute I started playing, but I di...

If you are playing slots, I'd suggest you stop playing online now.
As a programmer, why on earth do you choose to play slots? The RNG generated for slots is weighted before applying to the reels, thus they can set the payout anyway they like. Normally they set the payout between 80-95% but they have the right to set it as 50% or lower. Even if they do that it's still justified because slots are supposed to be NON RANDOM.
The major difference between online and land based gambling is that you will play MUCH faster. With a high house edge, your chance of winning with slot is close to minimum and you will loose your money much faster playing online.
Maybe you should stick on land based casino. At least you got free drink or meals for the action.

If you want to test an online casino for fairness why would you choose a slot machine? They can be programmed to pay out whatever they want. Try testing the software with a large sample of small stakes blackjack or even small stakes ideo poker. You have no way of knowing the slot machine is ripping you off, but you can tell fairly quickly playing blackjack or ideopoker which only hold about 1/2 of a percent advantage.

I am new to internet gambling. I played a few hundred through a few sites about five years ago, found it to be horrible, and quit playing online. I enjoy land based casinos, and at my locale, have only boat casinos (have to be in international waters), so limited here.

So, I have been experimenting with online casinos. Fifty here, fifty there, (totalling about $600 at all sites), winning only once ($100 @ VenetianGold (I won, but had a bear of a time contacting them or making a withdrawal...through Netteller, but waited 8 days each time)).

My next step was to choose a 'reputable' casino, and spend enough to adequately confirm or deny whether online play is iable. I chose InterCasino, and inside InterCasino, one game...a .25 slot machine.

In two weeks, I put $1350 into one quarter slot machine, running the winnings back through. The machine had seven possible winning lines, the top being $625, second $250, third $62.50 ... Playing through $1350 + winnings, the machine pai...
