Seeing as a lot of people are reaching this page from the search engines, looking for Rummy 500 rules, I've quoted below.
Quote:
Introduction
500 Rum is a ariation of rummy in which points are scored for cards melded, and lost for unmelded cards remaining in a player's hand when someone goes out. The game is won by the first player to reach a cumulative score of 500 or more over a series of hands. In this game you are not restricted to taking only the top card of the discard pile - more than one card can be taken in order to reach a card lower down which you can use in a meld.
Some players call this game Gin Rummy, which is confusing as this is also the name of a different game. Many people just call it Rummy.

Scoring
When a player goes out, the other players add up the alue of all the cards still remaining in their hands, as follows:
* Face cards (K,Q,J) are worth 10 points each
* Aces are worth 1 point each
* Number Cards are worth their face alue - for example a six is worth 6 points, a four is 4 points, and so on.
The total alue of all the cards in the hands of the other players is added to the winner's cumulative score.
The game continues with further deals until a player reaches the points target that was decided before the game began, or until the agreed number of deals has been played. "

i dont think theres such thing as official rules for any card game, except bridge and poker i think. For other games 'official rules' ary from place to place. But www.pagat.com is by far the most comprehensive site devoted to cards, so you could go by the description from there, and pick up any extra rules or ariations you might like. http://www.pagat.com/rummy/rummy.html . Note that gin rummy , rummy 500 and kaluki are all 'rummy' games as well, but they are different to 'rummy' the game.

I've played hearts, bridge and gin for the most part. I'm now playing mostly double-deck pinochle, and most of that online. But I attend every live tournament I can make. Never heard of kaloookie until yesterday, when I joined here.

And from gin you progressed to kalookie? Kalookie is just the best card game ever!

Rummy 500 is a sort of mix between Rummy and Kalookie, basically it's similar to Kalookie as you can only pickup cards as long as you can use them in a set, but different because in Kalookie the loser is the one who gets 150 as opposed to in Rummy 500 where the first person to 500 is the winner.
