I used to play 3 cards guts regularly. Played a number of ariations and the most brutal was called pin-up guts. One of the 3 cards was dealt face up and the high card was automatically in the pot. The way I always played was to exclude straights and flushes and it was high cards, pairs, or trips. I've also played draw and no-draw and in draw you can exchange 1 card if you're in the pot. Superior poker has an online guts game but it includes straights and flushes and gets ery expensive ery fast. In my younger days I put a lot of my paycheck in the pot playing this one. It's still a much better game than Acey-Deucy or In-Between though...

2 Quick stories about this.. Not to long ago.. Playing cards with family, few friends. My Oldest Neice has this befuddled look while actually learning this particular game. He dad says you sure you don't have Jacks or better to open? She says "No I don't".. Well he says "Let me see your hand"...

Long story short she started out with a fullboat. She thought you could only open with a pair of JJ's or higher. Everyone burst out laughing at the table cause it was funny that she though she couldn't open. Yet being family and friends we all agreed that she would have won. Cause we all said we couldn't open and she was the last to act. So we instantly mucked our cards when she said no she couldn't open. Fun atmosphere when family and friends play.. yes we do play for money but nothing serious.

My question .. if you have a straight or a flush to open with.. We give the option of that you don't have to open if you do have a straight or a flush. Do you guys play that one ...

Your right their twizzybop,it will hit your wallet but what a challenge it is,not for the weak. LOL We play it a lot in winter with holdem,7-card as well. 5-6 makes a nice chunk of change if you win!. Sometimes we each put so much in the pot to begin with and use chips and at the end of the night or day who has the most will get first place money on down to third. Pretty cool that way.

Yes it is fun but dangerously painfull to the wallet..Sometimes we at home play progressive and sometimes we don't. Depends on who is the dealer and what rules are implied.

Game though doesn't hurt the wallet as much as guts do.

Hi all I've heard of a lot of different cards games on here and especially "poker"but I've heard nothing of J's or better progressive. I really enjoy this game and you can get a nice size pot going while playing progressive style. Checking if anyone else plays this and see maybe sometime we could get a SNG table of it. Seeing what forum buddies thought of this,it's just a different type of 5-card stud .
