egg-zactly.... by "counting the whole hand" I meant "whole deck" since the "whole deck" is played out during the "whole hand".
(There...now my annoying "you haven't posted in a while" blurb will now go away)

Pinnocle, Bridge, Spades, Hearts and any other trick based game require more than just counting the hand. To effectively play the cards well, you really need to learn to count the whole deck, first speculatively ia any bidding, and then adjusted for any ariation of that speculation as the cards and tricks play out.

Lol...yep...almost caused a divorce I'm gonna get a plaque made that states "Never, EVER pass a pinochle & a King of Spades to the person who made the power bid, called clubs as trump...while keeping an Ace and TWO 9's of clubs!" for my living room... I'm kidding of course, but boy did it irk me to pick that up... my wife is USUALLY quite good and counts trump quite well....never did get a good explanation as to why....at least not that I heard....

My wife and I play partners and "cut throat" when ever we get a chance!!
FYI: learn to count at LEAST the trump...if not the whole hand
(i. e. I have four spades AATQ leaving TKKQ99...three other players...lead an Ace (or the T cause it's good) and subtract what gets played by the others)

I have heard of it when i needed a deck for holdem. I went out to buy a deck ( i was in a rush ) saw the deck of cards in the isle of the store. I picked them up and went home. Opened them up and saw that there was like a million mutiples. HAHA

Yep, grew up with this game. Still remember my grandparents playing during the holidays. Everyone played and had fun but still took the game pretty seriously. You can play double deck at Pogo but its not the same as I learned and players aren't really ery good.
