A straight is ranked by its highest card:
So in the case of A-2-3-4-5, you are using the ace as a LOW, so you would have a 5 high straight.
A 2-3-4-5-6 straight beats the straight mentioned above because it has a 6 high, which tops a 5-high.
The best straight is 10-J-Q-K-A, which uses the ace as a HIGH.
Hope this cleared up any confusion.

The best straight to get is A,K,Q,J,10 and then is just goes down from there, K,Q,J,10,9 and so on. This is for Hold'em poker. There are certain other games of poker where you can play a hand high or low meaning that the best high hand will split the pot with the best low hand. The best low hand is the lowest possible cards without having a pair so the best low hand is A,2,3,4,5 and the highest card u can go up to is an 8 any higher card is not counted as a low hand.
