There are not many tells when playing online poker. As was mentioned a bunch of times above, the best ways is speed and betting. Players will have patterns when they bet, raise and call. It's difficult to notice at a full table, but in a small table these become alittle noticeable. Also, keeping notes are a good idea. On Hollywood you can actually click on the player and add a note about their playing style, pretty useful!

But don't forget, some players can change style at any time and the "tell" may be a dud !!!

I think the first 5-6 hands of any tournament are a poor indicator of any tells though because people have a tendancy to go all-in with a decent hand in the beginning because they have nothing to lose by doing so early in a tournament.

after reading a few posts on here... I was wondering is there a difference between calls and betting patterns or are they the same thing

I think the biggest tells are differentiating the aggressive players from the conservative players. Do that and you're ahead of the game.

There are certain internet tells that you can tell though. If you take long and look hesitant before a bet and then call... if the player is the aggressive type he'll raise the after the flop and so forth. On the river you raise him all-in and he'll think you're buying the pot when in reality you have a monster.

You might not get a whole lot of tells online, but you should take detailed notes of many players. This is a huge advantage when going up against a player. It can save you a pot you would have folded in or save you a bet you would have called.

betting patterns are the best, always try and see who are the aggressive players and who are the tight players i think thats the best way to figure people out.

well.. there are also players who just think fast .. I don't like pondering too much ... it's in or out
also, time si different between a high-speed internet connection and dial-up ... so, you can't really tell

yeah i tend to just watch what cards people play and mentally keep track of how each player plays certain cards before the flop, draw, etc. But it gets tough because online it's sometimes not possible to see the same people on the bigger sites

The Only Way I See Any Sign Of A Tell Is Just By The Way The Person Bets....Just Gotta Watch How They Bet , How Much They Bet And When They Win , What Cards They Have.

1. I use the notes button as much as possible. You start to see the same people time after time at the freerolls and keeping tabs on there patterns and cards they play is always helpful. I also look to see who betting quickly and also who has pre checked the call button...those are the players I want out.

Tight to the extreme and watch betting patterns. You will almost ALWAYS have call machines ready to donate money to you and if you're lucky, you'll have call machines wanting to see the river. Apart from that, theres just about every type available, imo.

All good advice so far. Just to add to that: the best way to play is tight but aggressive. Even more important on the internet than on real tables is betting hard before the flop when you have nice pockets. Too many times, hapless players get lucky on the turn or river and screw you out of your pocket queens or whatever. You need to scare them off early.

The one thing that I cannot stress enough about playing NL cash games online is to TAKE NOTES!!!! Document what kind of hands the raiser shows down, what they play, what they call with, and HOW they bet. If a player will make pot sized bets when hes holding a big pair, but check when he hit his set, its pretty easy to let your hand go. If a player frequently check-raises on a bluff, you can call him down with less than marginal hands. If a player that normally calls, folds, raises quickly, but all of a sudden he takes his time before he raises, you can be sure hes trying to decide how much to raise his big pair. These aren't absolute rules, but just a few tips on how to read opponents.

Generally speaking, on the internet if you are checked to on the internet and u make an average bet and you are RE-RAISED then almost nine times out of ten they will have hit a set and trying to trap you.

The best way I have picked up tells ia internet gambling is simply watching. There are many people out there that will bet on every hand delt. Watch them, nine times out of ten they never make it to the river as they bluff the competition with extreme bets. Look at the flops, what can they be betting? Watch for people to call them to the end, take a look at their cards. The reveal mixed with their betting patterns will tell you a lot about them. In tourneys I have seen people go all in to double in chips only to find they were holding 4 7 off. These are the people to watch out for since they will play every hand and are the number one way to make easy money if you have patience. Watch the blind bets too. Some will try to steal the blinds on button, when the flop hits they may check. Also the number one tell (dont take this to heart as some people use it to lure you in) is when someone may bet high on the flop, then a straight draw comes up on the turn and they lower their bets. This could show you uncer...

Do not even think of tells such as time between bets, etc. when playing on the internet. You will gain absolutely nothing from trying it. Watch the others players and you'll notice who routinely overbets junk hands, etc. If it's a rebuy tourney, watch for the players who bet aggressively continuously until they finally double up. You can make get alot of chips from these guys.

I think the biggest tell could be speed and patterns. Some people won't mix up their pair and will always raise the same amount with pocket pair. Some people will always check if they hit their set and will reraise the same amount.
