i try to see as much flops as can when the stakes are still low, and start stealing blinds when the blinds go up, because other players will start to tighten up.

Very sound advice Dorkus. Personally, I prefer limit ring games, but I can't stand limit tournaments. I learned NL first and progressed to limit, which is like learning to run before you walk, which in retrospect was not the thing to do.

- Stealing is harder so it's even more important than in NL to get maximum alue from your marginal hands.

- Position is even more important than in NL in mid/late stages, as it's impossible to eliminate the problem of being out of position with a push, for example.

- Bet when you think you're ahead, fold when you think you're behind. Only slowplay huge hands into ery aggressive players.

- Implied odds in limit suck. If you hit a flush on the turn you're probably only going to make 2 more BBs tops, so never call on a draw without pot odds to do so.

limit tournements require more luck than limit cash games because of the structure. i only play limit cash games and nl tourneys

I learned poker(what little I know that is..lol) from playing limit tourneys but I have come to find out that I like the no limit/pot limit tourneys better because people, from my experience, chase more in the limit tourneys and ring games which can be quite a pain in the rear. I am far from experienced though, i lose my rear quite a bit in the no limit games too..lol

While I agree with the White Devil and dman, I have to say...playing in a limit tournament to me is like a slow, horrible, death! I just cannot take the boredom of it all! AAAAAAAAAAHHH!!!!

On the flip side, I don't mind playing a limit ring game. I can usually pick up some $ if I remember I'm not playing NL! lol

Limit is a great starting game for a few reasons. First, like XD stated, the mathematical portion of the game is much higher and limit requires much more on-the-fly analytical thinking than NL in a lot of situations. The other big reason to start with limit games is that you will, to a large degree, mitigate your losses in the learning stages of your poker career. Rather than either having all-in fever, or being run over by someone who realizes you're new and that you don't want to make a decision for all your chips, you will learn how to properly bet cards for their alue and not rely on a card catching contest to win you your first online pots.

LEARN LIMIT FIRST! Limit is played with a lot more math than PL and NL are, but IMHO you NEED to learn the math part of the game before you jump into NL. Trust me you will lose less in the beginning of your poker playing career and you will have a much better understanding of betting strategy if you learn limit first. I know it is the boring route but you will be better off in the long run.

I guess the best advise I can give is to play those tournaments! Playing Limit and Pot Limit tournaments helps your No Limit game. Personally, I am a huge fan of Pot Limit tourneys since I am still a "newbie" in the poker world.
