First off I will say I hate rebuys. I just can't bring myself to play the way you need to to win. Seems to me you have to be prepared to do multiple rebuys and play extremely loose. People who know what they are doing want to buy buy buy so they have as many chips as possible, no matter the cost, before the break.
I don't have the book with me, so my fact will be a little off, but in Phil Gordon's Little Green Book he tells the story of a re-buy at the WSOP that Daniel Negreanu played in. Long story short DN went all-in all the time and had..... wait for it..... 28 re-buys before the break!!!! That plus the initial grand to enter cost him $29,000. He had a massive stack by the break though and came in 3rd earning him a $75,000 pay day. Rumor had it that he also had a side bet with another pro on who would last longer and that may have played a role. But 28 re-buys! Wholy crap! My one and only re-buy I played was at a B&M casino and the guy to left bought in 7 or 8 times and I thought that w... | | Read Entire Entry |

Chuck, got bored last night & signed up for a $10 rebuy. Sat at a table with this maniac who would call and or chase hand after hand. Catch middle pair on flop & someone bets hw woud go all in. He had to have rebought at least 5 or 6 times & here I sit thinking, man why won't this donk play with me. Long story short finally get a reasonable hand & push him 7 of course he sucks out. lol I walked away thinking I should have not let his play influence what I wanted to do but, best intentions & all that.

*even with this method, i still have not rebought more than twice or three times, so maybe my "maniac" approach is not so maniac after all....only compared to the way i used to play
ps thanks for the congrats

Chuck, I play rebuys rarely, and only guaranteed events, and my rule is that I *never* rebuy. After a certain point, you end up investing so much money in rebuys that you can lose money if you make the cut but finish low on the payout scale. So I just let the other players rebuy like crazy and fatten up the winnings for me. So far, I haven't won anything in a rebuy, but I plan to stick to my guns, because, in a guaranteed rebuy event, even one good finish makes up for lots of finishes out of the money.
BTW, congrats on the big win.

I rebuy off the start and only allow my self to double rebuy once if I lose my 3k. Add ons are kind of a waste since ery stack is so large in rebuys.

Well i've played a few since this thread and I stick by my strategy.
I actually bring my level of play down to these donks' and play like a maniac before the break.
If i sit there and play like i would in a freezout, then everybody would have me pegged as a really tight player and wouldn't get involved in a pot with me.
The only way this works for me is if I get a big hand within the first 5 hands and people haven't yet put a table image to my name and therefore will play a pot with me.
Sometimes the maniac strategy can be VERY costly though

I haven't played in a rebuy tourney myself yet. I have watched the first 15-20 minutes of a couple of them and it is mass chaos. A buddy of mine entered a $2 buy-in event at Paradise because it was cheap and the prize pool was $5000 guarenteed. It was the first and last re-buy and add on tourney he played in. He is a little tight with his money so I don't think he was willing to make the necessary rebuys, lol.

Nicely done Chuck, ive tried re-buys playing different ways and still Dont like them, they play crazy at first cause they no they can re-buy, you can have AA and some jerk calls you with 2 9 because he no`s he can re-buy and then busts your AA, in my opinion thats not poker, in a freezeout you have to play your best to stay in. buck

pkrchmpi0n, there are a ariety of ways to do screen shots but I use a free piece of software called ScreenHunter. If you Google it you can find the download.
I used to dislike tournaments with rebuys but think I've changed my mind. Seems to me if you can be disciplined enough to play extra-tight/aggressive before the rebuy period is over, other players will have put in more money than you have and not necessarily have more chips to show for it. That's increased equity for you if you cash.

Congrats Chuck. Way to go. I think the important thing in rebuys is to decide before you start how many rebuys you are willing to invest & play accordingly. If you are getting good cards & just having a little bad luck then jump back in & if you think the cards or play is just too crazy then walk away. Sounds like you have a plan you are comfortable with. Good luck with it. Oh by the way can you loan me $50 until payday? LOL.

Congrats Chuck, I watched the final table for a little bit before the nightly started. Didn't look like the big stacks were giving anyone else any chance to steal. Nice payout and another CC final table. It's getting quite regular around here and has to say something for our forum. We just need someone to get one of those WSOP bracelets now.

i personally think you have to go into a rebuy tournament prepaired to rebuy, as if not i think it puts you at a disadvantage, as no matter how tight you play, you're bound to run into a bad beat or two with as loose as people tend to play. Have you ever played the $3+R at Pokerstars. They're crazy, but i love them, they average sometimes more then 5 rebuys per entry, so the pay outs are sweet. I also like the ones they do that limit you to one rebuy.

Everybody who's ever played a rebuy knows that before the add-on break, its a zoo in there
people rebuy 4 or 5 times or more sometimes and it's hard to play a solid game of poker without having to deal with these people
Alot of people say to play really tight before the break, playing only the top 10 hands or even tighter
in my experience i've never had enough chips to compete after the break if i play like this - i end up with usually around 10 or 15 times the BB after the break.
Ive tried something different and that is allow myself about 3 rebuys MAXIMUM and play slightly looser, because i give the guys too much respect when someone raises and is reraised before it gets to me with my AK
usually they will have AJ AT or worse or even KQ or something like that
so i've decided to turn to the dark side (slightly) and start playing closer to the maniac method of play.
like today for example i played a $10, $5000 guaranteed and i'm currently 5th in chips and 2 away from... | | Read Entire Entry |
