i agree w/ jack daniels, i mean sure u'll get a bad beat once in a while by sumone who can't play poker and doesn't know how to fold but i mean, how much MORE do u make off of those types o players? besides, if they're as bad as you say they are...y don't you just buy in with more chips and take back what you lost and then some?

Okay, so my glorious thought on this...

If everyone knew how to fold their cards everytime they were beaten, how would I continue to pay my mortgage every month? Seriously, I'm not a full time poker pro, but really, isn't our bread and butter (as poker players in general) filled out by those that can't or don't know when to fold?

Maybe this is a little more sinister than some people like and does apply to cash games a lot more, but if I can bust a player and make his stack part of mine, then cool. Especially in a cash game when he can reload. But in a tourney it is similar. If I can bust someone that doesn't know better (what we all affectionately refer to as dead money), then I have that much more ammo to make a run at # 1.

(And for those about to retaliate, no, I'm not claiming to be perfect. I've made my share of bad calls too, just like everyone else.)

That's the game of poker, you never know what others have or what they are thinking until the cards are flipped over. And sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. But nothing upsets more than someone who stays in and hits a gut shot on the river.

I sense quite a bit of hostility here from non-regular sources. From what I've read, Twizzy is a ery good poker player and he was not looking for negative critisizm, but possibly some empathy. He was way ahead in the hand and the opponent caught runner runner to win. In an all-in situation, it's bad luck, but this situation was a bad move by the pocket queens. Howbout showing some respect for fellow poker enthusiasts. I feel for you TwizzyBop, how'd you end up finishing in the tournament?

I think it's a bad beat and a poorly played hand by the illian, but how many times have you seen people with pocket pairs T-A hold them with a scary boards because they get married to the hand. Also, you have to take into account what your table image was at the time.

Have you shown down any bluffs?
Have you been playing aggressively?
Have you pushed this player around previously?

There are a lot of possibilities that could have led to this happening.

Also, two pair is a strong hand, but it's also possible that she could have hit a set. Whether her play was right or wrong - wrong in my opinion. You also have to look at the factors where maybe you didn't have the best hand.

Also, pre-flop you've got $2,025 in the pot
on your made flop she bets $400 and you raise the mimimum, she calls
so now $3,625
Finally on the turn you bet $1,600, she calls
Not surprising that some people online would feel semi pot-committed at this time, even if it's not t...

Know When Your Beat
I understand that you were unlucky to lose that hand but
A.) She could have thought you were bluffin
B.) She might have been trying to bluff herself
C.) She needed the chips (so worth the risk)
D.) You should have folded on the river (know when your beat
& your whole statement "People need to learn to fold when they are beat!", whilst i understand where your coming from, makes no sense as you lost the pot.
so theres no reason to call the player dumb as she may well be a far better player than you. Doubting if she was the chaser and the dumb ass you say she was as she made the final table. You were ery unlucky but why the sour grapes?

Instead of just looking at his his call (it was questionable), why would you call his all in after the river with a board of A,K,J,10,9. I don't believe in being pot committed. At that point, you knew you were beat, fold.
Also, if you're going to re-raise, do at least 150% of what the original raise is. You're never going to get anyone to fold on a re-raise of the same amount as there raise. Isn't that the point of a check-raise.

Well, I can't really fault your play right up to the river. The Checkraise was a real show of strength and BABYDOLL should have had no reason to think her ladies were good, however, given her position over you and the 8.5:1 pot odds, she may have thought it was worth the $400 to call and see what you would do on the turn. Your $3200 bet was certainly enough to dispell any notions that your hand was less than top pair. She may have seen the 10 as an opportuinity to represent the straight, that combined with her now depleted chip stack and her 10 outs (open ended draw, not gutshot like you said) must have seemed like the best chance she had to get back in the hunt.
All that being said, you seem to have fallen in love with your flopped 2 pair. Your play was in many ways worse than hers. If the 10 on the turn wasn't a scare card the King on the river surely must have been. That call was dumb dumb dumb dumb.

When you are beat.. you need to know you are... for crying out loud!

By min betting. that indicates at least some decent planning.

Agreed.. and agree with the rest.. only other reason I think this person called my 3k bet was they thought I was trying to steal the pot.

OK. Fair enough.

Although, I must note that the pre flop raise appeared to be enough to isolate the big blind. I agree that the raise should never have been able to do that due to the antes.

AQ seemed to be a hand in a range of possible holdings.

Being stung by AJ is certainly worth noting. It is considered the second biggest trap hand in the deck. KJ is the first.

And we must acknowlege that the best starting alue did ultimately win the hand.

Min raising the flop... alway at least double the original bet. If I bet 400 raise to 1200.

The player was bad, but not as bad as you think. She isolated the BB with QQ from UTG+2. By min betting. that indicates at least some decent planning.

Where do you think most of the profit for people in poker comes from?
Sorry that I actually gave the benifit of the doubt that a person who is at the final table was a quality player... I can only improve my game against quality players who know how to play. I bet the pot to make sure the call wasn't warrented(wow! gee! Glad it worked against a quality player).. instead of bet the hoping a dumb dumb player who will call(nothing to learn here, done that much more then I have done(call isn't warrented)..

I'd rather play a skill player who makes a mistake. I will be there when that happens and I will crush the shit out of you. Then again this could have been a skill player who didn't think I had an ace and got lucky.

To answer Bill's question.. what the person have? well with the weak ass pre flop raise.. not a whole heck of alot...Then the weak ass bet on the flop on top of it.. again not a whole heck of alot..

3.) At the River you call over 2000 when your opponent pu...

What would have happened if you pushed on the flop? You went for the check-raise which was good play but you needed a bigger raise there. If you would have pushed there than you probably win the pot before the scare cards come on the turn and river.

Sucks to get beat by a chaser Twizzy, but I agree with Dorkus. These are the kind of players I want at my table. Not much you can do when they beat the odds and hit, but I want them trying to chase when it's against my money. You'll get 'em next time.

Hi Twizzy,

Im not gonna sweat ya too much here. But, may I ask a few questions?

1.) At each street what did you feel was your opponents most likely range of hands.

2.) What did you consider were the other persons outs?

3.) At the River you call over 2000 when your opponent pushes. Did you think it was a bluff?

Well played, maybe a faster play on the flop woulda been cool.

This does illustrate a point I cant make enough. If an Ace hits the board, there is ALWAYS a straight draw...
AA has a better chance standing up than it does when it improves to a set. The hand most likey to crack a set fo aces?... a straight. When you use an ace on the board always play fast.

Cool,
Bill

Why do you want people to not chase? Where do you think most of the profit for people in poker comes from? That's right, people making silly plays like passively chasing 2 outs.

You should be sitting there and smiling, because in the long run you know that sir chasealot and his kind will make you money.

I bet alot so the odds and %'s didn't warrant a call.. 6 cards to come X 2.. not hard math at all..12%...and odds hmmm.. I bet pot.. they call.. making it 1:3 on a 1:10 chance of winning.... excuse me though if I have those backwards odds backwards.. even if they were on a flush draw..9 x 2 is 18% almost making that 5:1...

Learn something please.. write those odds and %'s down if you have to .. but I will be damned if I have to deal with another dumb dumb, then have to sit there and smile cause they don't know how to play.
