Topic: When to 4bet when you know what your opponent thinks of your image? Forum: Card Chat

I dunno.

You start by 2 betting/3 betting light from late position like any CR id. They realize that you're doing this so they start 3 betting back at you, so you start 4 betting light.

I would think you've got to keep doing it with the good hands as well as the air otherwise you help them to define the range that they expect when you 4 bet. If you don't, you won't get paid off when you hit a monster.

When that's the case then, IMO, you should 4bet for sure. If your image is one that will get worse hands to shove then the 4bet has to be the +EV play.

Funny thing about this thread is that this same topic has had me thinking a lot recently in MTT's, to the point that I PM'ed Irexes about it to know his opinion. More specifically, I asked him what he thought the best action is when, in an uncontested pot, you raise from the button with a strong hand like QQ or KK and get 3bet from one of the blinds.

The issue around it is, of course, finding the way to get max alue from your hand. If you 4bet there is the danger of getting worse hands (99-JJ, AT+) to fold and losing alue, but, in some instances, you also could get those same hands to shove.

There is, however, a significant difference because the discussion I had wi...

tag/lag doesnt matter. late position is pretty lag if you look at a good tag's style. my point is that if your opponent knows you're raising the majority of buttons and raises you light, should you 4bet with solid hands? or just cc the 3bet?

I see what you mean about getting marginals to push, but isn't the opposite true too? My thoughts are that you then narrow the range that is going to keep on playing with you, and that range is going to be AA/KK/QQ/AK alot of the time.

Also, is this with you playing LAG or TAG?

I was thinking, and after being played back at a bit from the blinds when i was button/co, i was wondering the times to 4bet? Sometimes i'll 4bet with air to resteal and keep them as honest as they're keeping me - but when i pick up something like QQ on the button and they 3bet me, is it a good idea to 4bet them then too? i'm not calling their 3bets at any other time, so i feel like i'd be telegraphing by just calling 1/10 button resteals of theirs when i have a solid hand. by 4betting i feel like they might shove over with more marginal stuff (AT+).

any thoughts?
