I agree with below. Some people play way too loose and part of being a successfull hold em player is the ability to be diciplined. Play tight, don't allowed other plays to take you off your game.
Super Systems says its' best to fold 7 out of 10 Hands. I agree. I've won more playing tight and being patient than playing wild and wreckless.
My friends at my home games love to play every hand and wonder why I win so often.
In poker patience is the best skill, cause eventually the cards will come out your way.

Hi DiabloBlanco - Excellent book report! Looks like you actually read the book.
I enjoyed reading your notes and found I do most of the things you suggest. I am one who does not read books mainly because I tend to change my play and then don't fair ery well. I stick to my personal style and seem to do well. I do enjoy tips like yours though and hope you continue to post them. Thanks again!

One minor problem,
This one is pretty self explainitory, but important still. In a Brick & Mortar casino a player can expect to see around 30 hands an hour. This number can be expected to easily hit 50 hands per hour in an online casino and one must be able to adjust to the faster pace. There are several reasons for this, first, the online "dealer" is much faster than a live dealer in a casino. Second, there is a time clock that immediatelt begins to run as soon as the action is on you which causes an annoying beep when you have delayed too long. If a decision isn't made 10-20 seconds after this period, the players hand is automatically folded and play continues. There is a way around this however, a player may request an additional period of time when faced with a ery tough situation such as an all-in call. This feature is available on most gambling websites.
First of all the time clock can be set to off so you don't have to hear that annoying beep, 2nd there really ... | | Read Entire Entry |

The AK deal depends of course on how big the all in bet is. In my experience, unless the pot odds are really super, I don't like to call on a draw.

This is a rather rudamentary bunch of advice, but it is designed for the rank amateur that (as we all know) most likely isn't going to purchase any books straight away. Just an effort to help those that don't have access to literature and are just startig out.

Depends on the number of chips involved, tourney position etc.
Rule 1) Dont chase cards. You dont even have a top pair, why risk your tourney life on it? Play a freeroll and give it a go, see how your fair.
From my experience...If I chase cards I lose, when people chase cards against me, they normally hit them. So I never chase them.
If you KNOW you will hit it, then you will...I know that is gonna sound crazy but its just a feeling you get sometimes, if your 'in the zone' cards just seem to fall into your lap
Good luck

I bought a great book called "Beat Texas Hold'em" by Tom McEvoy and Shane Smith. Due to copyright laws I cannot post erbatim what he writes and this post should be NO substitiue for buying this book. Having said that, I will paraphrase a few of these tips in order to give some much needed information to members here. Specifically, this information relates to the game of Online Hold'em.
I decided to post this for the simple fact that I know that others don't buy and read these books, which is crazy, but true. If this thread is received well, I will post my little book reviews or cliffs-notes on future occasions and on different books in my library. So here goes, enjoy!
Bear in mind that this is more for the beginner and not the advanced skil levels.
Concentrate your table position and
strong starting hands
This is a common rule and one that should be adheared to if one is to become a sucessful online poker player. This is due to the fact that most onli... | | Read Entire Entry |
