Just go to the website, login directly there, and make your deposit. They have implemented "hours" for the play money players to reduce load on their servers, which had been having troubles in recent weeks.

So its not as bad as 10x.

as far as the resource hog, that is for certain. i play 6 tables usually, and the computer can barely keep up. one other thing i would like to point out is that ongame tables include too many "non-safeguarded" methods of closing the table. invariably, you will be playing along, and a table with inexplicably just disappear. i think that this is due to accidentally hitting the "leave table" button.
one thing i DO like about ongame is the quick card action, and good use of pre-select tick boxes compared to other rooms.

-frequently freeze funds of people who having multiple accounts across skins and don't deal with them in a timely manner, despite the T&C explicitly allowing multiple skins
-resource hog. They receive complaints over and over from their large hand playing clientele on this and don't care enough to get it fixed. Even with their completely inefficient hand storage system turned off, it sucks. Tables will even randomly close at some point. I play 8 tables on a relatively decent system. It sucks that I almost always have issues at some point.
-hand history log BLOWS. With every upgrade, I hope and I pray that this issue is solved, but it never is. It's the number one player complaint, yet this network, like many others, gives two shits about its players.
-to top it off, they now are aggressively persueing those that used PRFetch to get around the hand history crappiness. The whigs in charge are truly clueless on what its players want.
