Chicubs touched on an excellent point and that is the one of money management. When deciding what limits to play at you should have 100 to 200 times the big blind as a rule of thumb. So to play at the $1/$2 tables you should have a roll between $200 and $400.

Bad beats are part of the game. You never watch the WSOP or WPT without seeing one really great pro giving another really great pro a terrible sendoff. However, despite the cliche, perception is NOT necessarily reality. What you perceive to be a "bad beat" during a prolonged slump may actually be the natural consequences of playing a hand you never should have gotten involved with in the first place.
One way I kind of keep an eye on myself is to utilize the "Statistics" screen provided by most good poker rooms. Take a look during your session at your percentage of flops seen to hand dealt. Anything over 30% should be highly suspect. Also look at your percentage of calls to bets, raises, and reraises. A high percentage of calls can indicate that you're allowing others to dictate your actions. (Remember the old poker maxim: 'A bettor be, or a raiser be, but a caller never be.') These statistical red flags can really help you slow down, tighten up, and increase your wins.

How are you spending your winnings? Let's say you won $50 in a freeroll, if you are going to the $1/$2 limit tables or the $.50 BB NLHE tables, you a making a big mistake.
You need to budget your money so you can take hits from "bad beats".
Also, I'm not trying to insult you, but maybe you aren't as good of a player as you think you are.
I think of myself as a fairly decent player who is still learning, and while I do take bad beats, I also occasionally find myself playing too many hands or making incorrect calls, or raising when i should be folding/calling, etc.
If you take "bad beats" take a break from playing. If you are in a tournament, fold the next couple of hands automatically unless you have a monster. Go get a glass of water and just walk around and forget about the beats, it makes u feel a lot better.

Superb suggestion! I either try to play a few freerolls or switch sites till the evil run at a particular site is over. Does save money in the long run it seems

if u won on freerolls stick to those for awhile, u cant lose then
when u build up a little then move onto the $1 sit n gos or the multi tournies till u start making a regular profit on those then move to the $2 and so on.
only problem is it doesnt always work. the principle is good but at least this way u will limit your losses.
only when u regularly win at one level whether it be the $1 or when u play the 5cents table 10c tables then u can move up a level.

ok the bad beats i can handle......it happens yadda yadda.....but what the heck am I supposed to do when its been 6 tournaments since i won a hand, and in those 6 tourneys I have accumulated a grand total of less than 20 pairs. No I am not just going all in the first hand all the time. In most of them I have finished in the top half.....without ever winning a hand. thats an average of probably 30-50 hands per tourney times 6 tourneys equals......Im getting freakin robbed of my money. even when I get a hand i lose. Ive had 4 full boats all lost. im about ready to throw my #$%^& computer out the $%^&* $&%*(^ $&%* &^%$% window, and then jump out after it. Id do it but unfortunately im only on the second floor and the doctors would rob me worse than these damn computers.

Truth of the matter is that the more and more poker becomes popular on t the more and more idiot players there will be. Everyone thinks "hey I can do that" and take a few bucks to the game and give it a shot. Sometimes they do suck out which only makes things worse since they assume they can do it over and over again. Reality will eventually set in and they will lose, and lose often. The real trick is to identify those players and play them tighter than you normally would. Good players fold, bad players call and scum chase every pot.

Hey I sometimes play a hand badly, but its for show and table image ;]
I have also been facing some nasty suckouts this weekend, played a couple of hands badly and was amazed at someone calling me to the river with Queen high after I had bet all the way, which beat my 8 high bluff ;]
As heylisten mentioned try playing at lower limits in order to be able to contain the beats and play on the limit tables rather than the no limit. The way I see the no limit cash tables is that there is no limit to the amount I can lose ;]

Well define bad beat.... Only thing to remember is a good tight aggressive player will loose some big hands to inferior players because your opponent will be drawing when the odds say he should be folding. The trick is not have to change your underwear when you lose those big pots. If after the hand you feel you did nothing wrong them simply move on it is part of the game. Most likely though unless you are GRUM you could have played the hand better and had a better result. I usually take a break, watch a porno, or take a dump on the neighbor's porch if it is really bad, like there only being 1 possible hand that could beat you and motherless freak who is into beastyality has it! Anyways don't get too discouraged live and learn bro.

I'm tired of this crap. I am a WINNING player who has bee hitting every bad beat in the deck. I started with nothing and won in freerolls to build a substantial bankroll just to lose it all to bad beats. If anyone has any advice it would be much appreciated.
