I have never played a live tournament, but I do believe that every few levels, the administraters will anounce to the dealers to "Color Up!". At which time, the chips increase in alue by a factor of 10. I would think that a $10 chip would be useless in a $100,000 pot.

What you have is the stantard colors for the majoirty of all casinos I have been to in the US.
There are some casinos that assign colors differently. But, not a lot.

OK, here's another casino irgin question...do the alues assigned to different colored chips in a casino change from game to game, tournament to tournament, level to level? For instance, in the early going of a mtt when blinds are low, is the alue of the arious colored chips different from the final table, when the blinds have escalated dramatically?

The colors you have above are what almost every land based casino uses plus from my old Trump Plaza days ... other colors are:
Purple = 500
Orange = 1,000

It doesn't really matter. You can assign them however you please. Shapes on the outside generally do not mean a thing. It's all up to you if you're, say, holding a tourney at your house.
When it comes to poker sites they all have differences among them. Just be observant.
