I agree with chicubs.
It is ery unlikely, especially with similar chip stakes that he will go all-in, as he knows you most probably have good pockets, due to the raise pre-flop.
With a 35% flush draw chance, you go into the turn as the slight outsider
Easy to say all this now we know the hand though! Its ery hard to lay down A K in this position
Very well played though...and you dont need to apologise for posting this, its good to keep the rest of the forum up to date when its members have had a nice win

I would have raised more than 2 times the BB preflop with AKo heads up
Actually he raised 3x the BB (BB= 40,000, he bet 120,000).
With the blinds this high your opponent is most likely going to call with a hand like 89, which is VERY playable heads-up.
His push on the flop makes it look like he is trying to steal the pot - which is what he wants you to think... He probably has put you on two overcards here or an Ace and is trying to induce a call with what looks like a steal-raise.
I would personally have to be in the heads-up situation to know how a guy is really playing, but here I fold the AK... there are WAY too many hands that are ahead of you here (any pair as well as an open-ended draw with two live cards, etc.)
Fold the AK and move on to play another hand.

I really disagree with that statement. You have to be willing to get off of a good to premium hand, when you are beaten. Especially when you flop only a flush draw and it's not even the nut flush draw.

Excellent point Dorkus, looking back now that call seems a bit of a bad play, however at the time my time bank was 15 seconds or auto-fold so 10-12 seconds really(due to the disconnects earlier), its a ery short amount of time to decide on what to do when the difference between 1st and 2nd is so large ($650).
I had to make a snap decision on that one, and i really went with my gut feeling on calling his overbet, he overbet lots and lots of times while we were heads up and i was being pushed around.
As far as i am concerned however my poker education is an ongoing challenge, my lastest challenge is to try and bring my heads up play up to standard with the rest of the game. At the moment i am finding the learning curve steep and frought with difficulty. Getting there though.
As far as my bankroll is going, at the moment i have $1,250 with stars and €1,500.00 (about $1900) cash for my live games. I only started bankroll managment at the start of this year and my initial investme... | | Read Entire Entry |

I would have called myself. While I seem to run into a lot of folks that play 8-9, and 9-10, in heads up you have to feel pretty good about A-K with a flush draw...

Way to go, that's a nice finish. If you take that bankroll to the limit tables and stick with the 300BB rule before moving up, you'll have a great shot at building a nice roll for yourself. Good job.

Let me get one thing straight before I say anything, I suck big ones at heads up play.
That said, I don't think you can call this. You have 9 outs to the flush, and 6 overcard outs. Fact is that one or both of these could ery probably not be good. Best case scenario for you here is he's semibluffing with a straight draw, which is unlikely because of the monotone flop. Second best scenario is top pair/non-A/K kicker, but such a huge overbet is again unlikely with this. More likely are the scenarios you don't want - a semibluff with AsX, or 2 pair, a made flush with/without the As, a made straight, or (unlikely) a set. If he has AsX your flush outs are no good, if he has two pair/a set/a straight your overcard outs are no good, and if he has a made flush your overcard outs are no good and your flush outs are reduced significantly (and you're drawing dead to a runner runner straight flush if he has AsXs). If I was first to act with your hand I would understand pushing (may be I'm wrong here though... | | Read Entire Entry |

Yep I had him on QJ, KJ or Ax, , i still thought that i had him beat, but sure what harm ill take the money that i won without too much complaining about that hand, he was dominating me heads up anyway, so i figured that this was my best chance at going for the win.

I imagine most people will say you should have folded all in as you hadn't made a hand, but you've got to try and guess what he would have called raise with. I certainly wouldn't have guessed 8,9, probably A rag, so you might have been ahead anyway. Even if he had pair, you had plenty of outs (flush draw plus A + K), so I would have called as well probably. He got lucky on flop.

Actually it was 63-37 after the flop.
I see two things here. First, I would have raised more than 2 times the BB preflop with AKo heads up. Especially, since you were slightly behind. Try and take the blinds and antes and if he calls or reraises, you are still in decent shape to call.
After the flop, I would have layed it down. You only had the Kc. So if he had the Ac you were toast. He could have flopped a flush, leaving you with only 7 outs. He could have flopped a straight or even a straight flush draw. If you fold, you still have 670452 left, and he has over a Million, but you continue to battle on. A 400,000 chip difference with blinds of 20K-40K, 2000 ante does not mean you need to panic.

Great job! Wish I had the patience for these type of events but at my age I just can't seem to stay in front of the computer that long without falling asleep. With this giant bankroll, hope to see you at the buy-in events and at my table on Royal Vegas...
