I don't chat at all when I play. I don't want to be bothered by it. I don't turn the chat off, I just watch it, read some of it, but don't get involved in the pissing contests. Guy could have just been like me.

Interesting thought. These online pokersites would have so much to gain from doing something like this. On the flip side, they would have so much to lose also, but how would this be detected?

I've played on Pokerstars and I was in one low stakes cash tourney where there was this one player that would play these messed up draws and caught many times. This player was taking an earful for playing such horrific cards from each and every player on the table. Not a single word came out of that players computer the whole game. Poker bot for the online poker company or did he just have thick skin? The player ended up winning the tourney.

This certainly isnt proof that there are bots that play for these companies, ...

BULL

It takes a lot of artifical intelligence to detect a bot, and at the lower level games no site is going to invest in what it takes. There are bots out there and unless the user gets greedy there is almost no way to tell a bot from just any other above average player. Of course if it runs 22 hours a day, thats a giveway, but like I said.. if the owner is not greedy and runs it like a human woudl play (a good human), then its free money.
I don't think there are many out there, other wise I would not play online. If I keep getting beat by a player I just avoid him, and if it was a bot, all the better to avoid it.

If you use Google, enter: poker cheat bot software, and you'll find more information
than most humans could possibly absorb.

When online poker started, a fellow avid, casino-playing friend of mine got hooked on it
and convinced me I "had to try it." I played a few times at the freebie tables and
couldn't believe how badly most of the players were. At times, the nine others at the
table went to the River on 80% of their hands. I quickly lost interest.

On our next trip to our favorite poker room we were talking about the online games.
He was complaining that he felt he was losing situations that just didn't make sense.
We usually play Hold'em or Stud cash games for 5/10 or 10/20, so he was comfortable
playing online at that level. He's what I'd rate as "better than the average bear." He
frequently wins and only loses small.

I've been building/tweaking computers since 1978. I wrote my first program in 1980.
I learned Texas H...

Fascinating link, Cowboycards.

Having had a look at the WinHoldem site, my impression is that they are selling a tool for building your own bot, not a finished, fully functional bot, so the effectiveness of the bot is purely a function of the skill of the builder and his/her knowledge of poker playing.

I've played against the pokipoker bots (www.cs.ualberta.ca/~games/poker/), and they seem pretty good - well, better than me by far, though I am beginning to be able not to lose all the time! - , as their scores against each other + any human isitors to their server show. They do have the ability to learn and improve their game built in, apparently, using neural net technology (whatever that is, lol). However, they are not unbeatable, and when you play you see a a list of human "sharks" who do well against them on the server (also a list of "fish"!). Worth a go if you want to see what playing a bot is like. They play ery fast, which could be a giveaway on an online...

Yeah I played at Ultimatebet once with a guy that had two different set ups running at once. It was kinda funny. He was using it to have a little fun. One account name would say something and halfway thru the other would finish it. The guy would say it was his siamese twin playing.

Just a small clip.
However be warned I have been tossed off of poker sites for turning these cats in. So tread cautiously, and educate yourself so you can stear clear of them.

ive never come across someone i thought was a bot. i did however come across a player on CD poker that beat me 19 hands in a row. not that i had bad hands trips 2 pair and once a full house and all these hands were beaten but only just. i do have my suspicions about things like that.

As for odds calculators i think they can be helpful to players like me who are relatively new to the game. tho i havent seen one i'm sure they might come in handy.
does anyone know where i might find one?
if you cant post it on here email it to me mixtersbox@hotmail.com

What can you do? It's easy enough to disguise yourself on the net so it's an evil we live with. If you find yourself at a table and you suspect a bot i suggest you leave and not just the table leave the site and try another one. Most quality rooms want to know about these and come down hard on anyone using them so report it to support if you suspect it .

ive heard rumors of a online gambling commission but for the US sites. Federal/ game commission needs to step in soon. it should be pretty easy for online casinos to spot bots and ban them witch makes me wonder why it isnt done yet. "poker is a people game played with cards" i dont wanna play against a claculator. how can i ever make a bot go on tilt. I wonder if bots have tells?

There is an article in this months Maxim Magazine that deals specifically with a guy that does just that rammer. He has some wicked sick computer setup with different ISP's and plays 3 or 4 hands on a 6 handed table for several hours/day basically cleaning out anyone who sits with him.

It went into pretty specific details about how he kept the sites from figuring him out such as regimented shifting of his cash to several different accounts he owns and even going so far as to run generators in case of a power brownout so that all the systems don't ever go down simultaneously. The article said he is active on internet message boards and brags of his exploits, but I doubt that part of the article simply because I have never heard of this guy.

While he is probably one of thousands doing this, he is probably in the minority of people that won't be caught. This isn't as simple as geting a wireless router and a few laptops, this is some serious hardware/computer expertise that keeps this ...

Sites which use bot players: Should be run out of business. Newer sites use them to fill in tables and to give the appearance of more activity. Again, this goes back to the need for a common online gambling commission. There is no way to bring accountability in any meaningful measure to the current internet poker landscape.

Players who use substitute bots: How can this be policed by the sites? Is there something about the interface that would allow the site to "know" whether a player is a human or a program? Otherwise, I think it's a lost cause and a real threat to legitimate online poker. If a lazy cyber-grifter wanted to, they could invest in a half-dozen computers with independent isp's, open up accounts at six different poker rooms, and let the bots play on auto 24/7.

I see no real problem with people using odds calculators to give them an idea of how they should proceed with their hand. Programs that automatically play your hand are totally unacceptable and will get you banned from every poker site I know of. Party Poker has even started banning players who use player database programs. In short anything that plays your hand for you is cheating, but programs that simply assists in making decisions are here and nothing can be done about em.
