There are programs and subscription services that do the leg work and track players for you. Debateable if they are an unfair advantage but Party Poker has started banning programs that allow you to access information on players whom you have never played, and I totaly agree with them doing so. Any data you personally collect while playing someone is and should stay "legal". Anything that does the work before you ever play someone I think is an unfair advantage.

Hey Jason welcome to CC,
Pokertracker keeps a record of all the players you have played against. You can then either auto rate them or set your own criteria for rating them.
You can also open tables you are not playing at and it will track the actions of the players at those tables. Then when your playing you can bring up the information on the players at your table.
