Do yourself a favour, and actually buy REALLY GOOD chips straight away, if it is to much to bear on your own, then ask your friends to chip in aswell, i have played poker for 4 months and have already bought 4 sets of chips, 2 of them are 1000 piece sets, and in the end, YOU WILL WANT CLAY CHIPS, so get clay chips, PJCC are good, i also really like the nevada jacks, but they are expensive, 1000 piece set, all clay from PJCC is um i forget, im in australia, here http://pjccmall.com/cgi-bin/shop/ind...=32050206&SPD= i bought these ones, they are good, if you want i have 1000 piece set i will sell of these http://www.direct2public.com.au/p/53...-chip-set.html, $200 australian

If you are looking for dirt cheap chips (i.e. the infamous "dice" chips that everyone buys first) you can pick a set of 500 up for $30 if you look around enough.

If you are not willing to spend $1 a chip for top of the line clays, I would pick up a simple clay chip set (simple color designs) for around $130-$200. You can get 500 real CLAY (not fake little plastic ones) for around this price. Lots of sites online have deals as well, just run a google search.

For general interest, I know that a company called ChipCo. makes WSOP replica chips with all of the colors and alues exactly the same as in the real thing. However, these sets run ery expensive (1000 chips for $700ish).

ok buying chips is really quite simple, you get what you pay for. You can buy 11.5 gram chips for $20 or $120, the difference is huge if you intend to use them a lot.

Cheaper sets contain small flaws, not a huge issue when you look at a single poker chip, but massive if you like to stack em up (hi john).!!! In this way the actual weight is not a major issue, anything over 9g is fine. Just remember a good poker set is for life and i wouldnt go for anything under $50, unless your a casual player.

Not shipping to the US at the moment either folks sorry.

I just got a set at Kmart, was on sale for $24.99 for their After Thanksgiving Day Sale it was 500 chips 11.5 gram 2 decks of cards and dice in a aluminum case. You can also go to >> shopwsop.com << they have some nice things but a little expensive. The same set i got at Kmart for $24.99 was at shopwsop for $129.95. Everyweek i see someplace with chip sets on sale, up here in Massachusetts. If you check the ad papers out you can find them pretty cheap, especially with Xmas coming. gl >>>>>>>>>>>>>>buckster436
Walmart has them to.

I just picked up a 500 set from cosco (Canada) for $50 and I think the weight was 13g. It has the metal case with a glass front.

Oh! I just remembered! I think Tenbob and KillerKat have a shop where they sell these kinds of things! You may want to PM one of them...I think they can ship to you as well? Worth a shot.

I'm ready to make the plunge and buy some Poker chips. I want to go with medium priced chips. Not top of the line, but not bottom either. Any suggestions on what and where to buy? On or off line? Has anyone had a good or bad experience with a certain place and why.

I recently bought 500 piece clay set. I found the poker supplies section at pokerlistings.com to be ery helpful. There are like 100 different endors listed there. I went through quite a few.

www.wedoitallvegas.com
www.pokersupplycentral.com
www.apachepokerchips.com

plus most of those mentioned above. For my money most of them were pretty much the same, but I thought Apache had the highest quality chips. Hope that helps.

Yah I've been trying to locate a good ebay deal but the shipping is outrageous with most of these dealers. Most want an additional $50 USD to ship to Canada, and that's my problem being Canadian.

I missed a mint auction last night, hadn't logged in yet and the login took me over the auctions end - 1000 11.5g chips for $12.00 - Only $13.00 shipping.

Seems like you really have to watch though, wish I could search by shipping fees for this kinda stuff and set a bunch of auctions to watch that would make the process a heck of alot easier.

Thanks for the advice guys.

if you buy chips you have to watch that they dont have "sharp" edges, because me & my friends bought some cheap ones and they're not so good.

ebay is the way to go. Got a 500 chip set 11.5 gram/steel case/2 decks for less than 5 bucks. The shipping was $30, but compare that with the same thing anywhere else and you'll pay way more.

You're best bet is e-bay, bar none. I have purchased 3000 chips in three auctions on e-bay for much less than any poker chip site retailer out there. Also, I got mine with chip racks instead of a metal case. But I run live home tourneys catering up to 40 guys sometimes, so racks work better for me than cases do.

Also, yes watch the shipping charges as they can be unreal. It doesn't do any good to win an auction for 1000 chips for $20.00 then pay $95.00 for shipping. But if you pay attention, there are some amazing deals out there.

Looks what I've actually ended up doing is going through pokersourceonline - Not sure how many of you are familiar with this site but it seems like a pretty hard to beat deal. I've been in the market for a new poker site (as my thread about everest should explain) and PSO gives me that opportunity. Basically I have to deposit $100 into Party Poker, which gives me an instant $25 PLUS 50% deposit bonus if I use neteller - So I should end up with $175. I will have to play 250 raked hands mind you, but that shouldn't be hard as Party Poker's raked hand doesn't require pot contribution, you just have to be at the table.

Then, on top of that, PokerSourceOnline will ship me 500 11.5g dice chips for free because of my deposit.

I figure I was going to spend the $100 on chips anyways, this way, I get a chance to actually earn money with my purchase rather than just spending it.

Anyone had any experience with PSO? Seems pretty swank to me at this point!

Thanks for the advice,

Well, I do not like purchasing things online yet (I know I'm old fashioned), and I found a great set of 11.5g clay chips at Costco for a great price. I am not sure if they still have them, but I know it would be worth your while to check it out if there is one around you!

I love this one!!

Hi,
You might want to have a look at these places :

www.buycheappokerchips.com
www.simplypokerchips.com
www.pokerchips.com
www.elitepokerchips.com
www.cardroomsupply.com
www.pokernstuff.com

Hope you find what your looking for, alternatively you can go to yahoo and type in their search box 'poker chips" and it should give you a list of about 100,000 poker chip sites, mainly manufacturers so they come cheaper, or they are supposed to, lol.
Good luck

I'm looking to purchase some poker chips and of course, like most people, I want to try and do so and get the best deal possible. I'm not a big fan of ebay, and really with all the chips for sale on ebay for the cheaper rates I figure there's got to be a site out there competing with something similar as far as rates?

Thanks in advance,

miR
