I do have an existing bankroll on Poker Stars. Basically, I cashed out all the money that I put into poker sites, so everything left was profit, and determined that I wasn't going to put in any more of my own money. That means that when I'm trying to get a starting stake at a site, I either have to transfer it from an existing account ia Neteller, or I have to win a freeroll to get a little something to build up, or have some other free money offer (like the $5 Noble Poker survey entry). Since I mainly play Pot Limit or Limit Omaha High/Low, the freerolls are also a way to get more practice at No Limit Holdem, which is the ariant I always have to play when I'm joining in a home game when isiting my family - currently I'm about £50 up on the home games, too, but I haven't been counting that really as part of my poker winnings, only the online wins.
Currently I've got about $87-88 on Stars, $5 on Pacific, $14 on 32red, $1 on Poker Champs, $1 on Absolute and $25 on Noble. I'm mainly playing the 1c/2c s... | | Read Entire Entry |

I placed on a Champs freeroll before, and lost the money playing No Limit... so I'm hoping to avoid doing that this time... the standard of play on there does seem to be pretty bad, though - people much more likely to call with random crap, even later on... I guess it's something to do with having freerolls every hour or whatever.
I've just got into the money on another Prima freeroll, so I'm definitely in favour of them in the moment (since it'll be the 3rd freeroll on there I've increased my bankroll with).

congrats starfall - hope your bankroll builds up quick
I've played the pokerchamps FRs; they have to be the WORST players online.
When i first started (maybe 2 or 3 months in) i think i won a couple or at least placed ery high.
Beware the cash tables; the play there is almost worse than the freerolls.

I must have got the basic strategy into place a little better on the freerolls, because I just place on a PokerChamps and an Absolute one, one after the other - 18th both times, as it happens, for a dollar on each... now to try to grind those up to more useable amounts on each site, so I have a bankroll on 2 more sites to build...
The blinds go up relatively fast on Champs, so you need to double up relatively often, so that means more people gambling... the net result with an ultra-tight style of play is firstly you'll get callers with worse hands, and secondly when you do steal the blinds (and antes later on) will be more, because they've increased fast... you do need to make sure you're getting your chips in often enough, though, so only high pocket pairs just isn't often enough... I've placed in a Champs freeroll before, but lost the winnings playing NL Holdem...
