Ahh, I think I can see why that would be. With A9, a T J Q K board is no good as a way for you to win, because you'd both just split with the A high straight. It diminishes the straight potential of the 9 by that small increment. With A6, on the other hand, the 2 3 4 5 board gives you the higher straight and the win.

The worst, believe it or not, is A9

(ie the best to be up against if you have AA, but the worst if you are are the one calling)

I'm presuming that A6, A7, A8, and A9 (offsuit, of course) would all be equal in the best hands to be up against when you're holding AA. A5 and below and AT and above give the opponent straight draws.

The best hand to be up against if YOU have the aces is A2? Is that correct? Or would it be A6 to not have the wheel draw? Just curious.

There are times when I believe that suited connectors were created exclusively to crack aces.. I'll admit when I first started playing I didn't get the whole strategy behind playing connectors.. Now I love when I'm facing a raise and a few callers in front of me and I look down at 6 7 or 8 9 suited.. I'll call gladly (as long as it won't put a sizeable dent in my stack) because of the huge implied odds if I hit my hand.. Plus the fact that others have mentioned before that they are easy to get away from and after the flop you know where you are.. Do you have a straight draw?, Flush draw?.. Straight flush draw?.. two pair?.. Trips?.. So many possiblilities there that it's well worth it to take a shot and hope you hit the flop.. If you do you can put a sizeable dent in your opponents stack because we all know how hard Aces are to let go of..

gotta learn to fold them when the flop/betting gets scary. Give me AA every hand and I'll be a happy man!

I have lost more with pocket aces than any other pocket pair.

You guys are all on the level. It is any middle suited connecting cards that are the best chance against Pocket aces. Lowest being 67 suited and highest being 9T suited.

The best hand to beat pocket Aces with is whatever hand your opponent holds when you have them.

Sorry..forget to include the explanation :-

Although 89 seems it should be the best, as it is first suited-connectors to be free, it isnt because :-

KQJT on the board is still a shared board

Have Fun, Welly

This one always seems a bit illogical.

First, the suit does matter (this isnt the illogical part). If you are against 2 black aces, then red suited connectors have a better chance, for example.

(All are suited, in a non-ace suit)
10J = 21.55% (has overlap with Broadway str)
910 = 22.61% (has overlap with Broadway str, but the 9 is "free")
89 = 22.47% <---- This seems an illogical trough
78 = 22.87% <---- the best
67 = 22.87% <---- the best
56 = 22.87% <---- the best (has overlap with the wheel, but doesnt matter because it top-ends the str)
45 = 21.44% (has overlap with the wheel)

True Twizzy, I didn't think of that. But by that same logic wouldn't 5/6 also cover the low end straight with the A making it the same hand as 9/10?

Wouldn't any suited connector that doesn't have an overlapping straight possibiliy with an Ace be of equal chance to win?

Reason being is that you have 2 straights to hit here compared to the other 3 you mentioned.. the 10 itself covers both ends of a straight draw.

Wouldn't any suited connector that doesn't have an overlapping straight possibiliy with an Ace be of equal chance to win? Ie; 6/7,7/8,or 8/9 suited all can make straights without the ace interfering and two pair is the same against AA regardless of how high it is.

Yep. I remember this being a WPT trivia question. gsr6541, I'm gonna move this and your other thread about the turn to our Poker section.
