I always assumed neteller was used by the minority not majority, due to the initial hoop jumping required to activate, plus relative complexity to use compared to debit/credit cards.
New fish are 'born' every day, it's just that they're European and fewer in number now (as are the sharks).
We need the Chinese to join the party, those guys love to gamble.

Most fish is from the US and the only non-us countries that are worse are italy and france but they on the otherhand represent 1/5000 of all pokerplayers so they doesnt really count.
Irish players are by far the worst. Then the players from the UK. Unfortunately the saying "lucky Irish" is true.
I also think it's difficult to speak in terms of "fish" and "sharks". I can be a "shark" at NL100 but a fish at NL1000. Also, yesterday's sharks can very well be tomorrow's fish if they don't go down in level when the play gets tougher. | | Static Link |

What do you think the US "fishes" use if not Neteller?
Credit/debitcard?
Most US credit/debit cards have been blocked for online gambling for years,
Why?
I think it's primarily because of chargeback-abuse/fraud issues. | | Static Link |

"REAL" fish don't know they are fish and most likely deposit through the same methods as a shark.
Agreed. A lot of my friends play poker online but don't actually try to learn the game. They all use Neteller. (Well, I guess they all used Neteller.) | | Static Link |

| Posted by: numptie at January 20, 2007, 1:12 pm | | Topic: Aren't most of the sharks American, too? Forum: Bonus Whores | What about if European players let US guys use their poker accounts? I have loads of old poker accounts that I don't use anymore, so why not let US guys use one of them? It would need trust - US guy transfers money to European. European loads that into his poker account. European lets US guy use that poker Account to play. When time to cashout, money goes back to European guys Neteller then he sends it to US guy via Bank transfer or something. No laws would be broken I think.
Let me know if this is BS. It would take trust between the two but I would be willing to try. I hardly play poker anymore (casinos for me) so I have no problem letting someone else use some of my old accounts, as long as it isn't illegal. | | Static Link |
| Posted by: DrStrange at January 19, 2007, 8:01 pm | | Topic: Aren't most of the sharks American, too? Forum: Bonus Whores | The loss of funding methods selects out the fish and leaves the sharks.
Take me as an example. I haven't drawn money from my checking account since the firsr $100 I deposted at PokerStars. If the no one can restock their PokerStars account - the fish will go broke, but I'll still be able to play my winnings (without any new bonuses )
Someday that could lead to the sharks eating the sharks, but very quickly the fish to shark ratio is going to get skewed towards more sharks unless a new, easy to use, funding method emerges.

| Posted by: kruschel at January 19, 2007, 4:39 pm | | Topic: Aren't most of the sharks American, too? Forum: Bonus Whores | I don't think there is much of a difference between US and European players. My experience usually has Europeans playing tighter than US players (at 6max NL tables). But I am not sure if this is generally true.
The closing of Neteller is definitely bad in this regard. Because the sharks will try to find new deposit methods fast. The fish on the other hand could easily be turned off when they realise they can't deposit easily anymore. At sites where US players aren't bannes this could definitely have a negative effect in the short term (in the long term there will probably be other deposit methods). | | Static Link |

Forum: Bonus Whores | I know everyone is freaking out about the closing of Neteller (myself included), but I was wondering if the loss of US players is really that bad. I mean, aren't most of the sharks americans?
So, while we may be losing a lot of fish, the fish to shark ratio may in fact be improving. I've certainly noticed the games during Euro hours are getting easier. | | Static Link |
