you cant play with money that means anything to you. i play at a concious level where losing my whole bankroll wont make me committ suicide. the money means nothing to me until i withdrawl it. helps me be monotonous in my decision making, if that makes sense.

sorry, i didnt mean to imply i go totally by his rules, what i should have said is that its a good indication. i also sometimes just work out my number? by dividing my stack by BB, when it gets down to 5 I push all-in with good cards, or if its above 10 i go TAG, above 20 and im loose. this works for me. (at micro stake mtt)

Harrington's books are meant for big buyin MTTs involving other solid players. You have to adjust your play for anything less. For example, the loosest players that Harrington mentions aren't 1/2 as loose as the average aggro. player I see everyday in $20 and $30 SnGs. Again, you have to adjust your game accordingly and you definitely will not succeed by playing exactly by the book with harrington's series if you play small stakes like most of us do. There's still great info in there though, and you just have to take it with a grain of salt and realize that it's not meant for <$50 games.

I have read Dans book and he is a much more experienced player than me. I have picked up a lot from his books that have helped.
What I have found is that I play a lot looser than I did and unfortunatly so far by using his strategy I am doing worse!!! Still early days.
What I will say about Q + M is that I find it just as easy to work out my stack BB and other players stack bb (bb 100 means 1000 stack means I am left with 10 bb`s)
I am not realy sure how much more of an advantage you get by being as precise as Dan H is when playing lower stake MTT ($5 - £50 buyins)
Be interested to hear what you guys think.

yeah, Q is the total amount of chips in the tourney, divided by your own chipstack, isnt it? thats how i just read it. ie 100 players, with 1000 chips to start with, you have 20,000 chips with 15 people left. 100x1000 = 100,000 chips. you have 20,000, or a Q of 5(100000 divided by 20000).
work out the other's Q's then you know where you are.

KD, I think you have it right. My memory says M=# of BB's you have covered with your current stack...I aguely recall Harrington discussing Q but don't remember what that equation was...it was a bit more complicated than M lol!
On topic..as far as avoiding tilt. I remain convinced that experience really helps here. After playing for awhile, you get to see enough bad beats that they kind of roll off of you. Until then, I think the advice here is solid..get away from the games until you get yourself collected again.

ok, fair enough. i thought m was stack divided by bb, or is that q???
anyway, i dont kno w a lot on stats. but like i say, go super tag for a while till you hit. it calms you down.

if I go on tilt, i play super TAG, fold everything till I get a killer hand, or good position, good hand, then see that flop and take it from there.

Was I drunk??? U would think so with the call!!! I had just lost it, that is what I call tilt.
Only thing u got wrong, u say I had an M of 13? No, that is incorrect. My understanding of `M` is BB+SB+total anties, then you divide your chip stack by the number you ended up with = M.
So, in this case 200+100+0=300, 1365/ 300 = M 4.5 (aprox) So
Regardless, I know it was a major, stupid, pathetic all in!!! I`ve been watching too much TV poker

quality post fp, as always.
some pro(forget who?) has a stack of chips in front of him when he plays online, he physically moves them away from him when he calls with the mouse, says it helps his game.

I think a lot of people misunderstand the problem with tilt; it's not that you get upset that's the problem. You can be as angry as you want, roaringly furious or deeply disappointed with a bad beat - it doesn't matter if you are.
What matters is that you act on impulses.
That's the problem, and that's what you need to fix. The fact that you are more prone to acting on impulses when you're upset or otherwise emotionally involved doesn't change that. The problem doesn't lie with the feelings, it lies with the actions. Sure, you can work on your temper I suppose, and try to think happy thoughts and all of that, but it's not your emotions that get you in trouble: It's your trigger happy index finger hovering over your mouse.
The reason I want to stress this is because if you're focusing on trying to rid yourself of negative emotions, you will miss all the times you act on impulses while being relaxed. Acting on impulse is natural for people. We, as poker players, need to suppress... | | Read Entire Entry |

Hi,
the answer of raise or call or fold a hnd in this situation depends on more things then the feeling of beeing bluffed.
Ask yourself:
What style has the raiser shown -- dont know here
What are my position - SB if i call may be the BB calls or raise and then i am in sandwich
How good are my cards- K J offs is a nice but not a ery good hand. Read "gap Concepts"
So i perhaps may decide to fold or just to call depens on the style of the raiser

just call preflop and don't play stupid, if you feel your being bluffed out that my be your instincts telling you one thing and your brain telling you another, I think you know what I mean.

Normally what I do is either watch TV.. or play a freeroll.. or a different type of poker.. I'll play some low limit 5 card draw games.. Soko games... etc.
Video games is always a good break as Chuck suggested. Dunno if you wanna shoot someone irl tho.

go running
go for a walk
shoot people in rainbow six
shoot actual people
take it out on your punching bag
take it out on your little brother
do pushups
watch TV for one or two shows
play really low-limit cash games and play ery LAG
do like BBB does and play like a maniac in freerolls
I just do anything that takes my mind off the game, and if I can't do that, then I just make sure that I don't play poker for the rest of the day.

Step No. 1 it seems to me is recognizing when you are getting close & identifying what has put you there, bad beats, loose play, obnoxious players, tired, distracted, whatever & then deciding if you can eliminate or at least mitigate those causes. My belief is the damage to your bankroll is done by not recognizing that you are tilting rather than continuing to play after the fact. What to do, as with all things poker, depends on you.
