As ever, thanks for the advice guys!!!

I think that because I have only been playing for 1 year I have not experienced the ups and down properly yet?

I know I am playing good poker, so I know it will turn. I am expecting to enter a tourny and play my good poker and have a game where I don`t get sucked out!!!

It seems to me that you have the same % chance to get sucked out on at the higher limit tables s the lower limit tables. The thing that changes is that the higher limit tables (you would think) would put themselves in the position to suck out on you a less % of the times. The lower limit tables should be where you make your money...and, by lower limit tables, I mean the tables where your comfort level is in relation to your bankroll in relationship to the skill levels at the tables. It could be the 3-6 tables up to the 20-40 tables.

If you are getting sucked out on more frequently, I would take that as a positive sign. That would mean (to me) that you are putting your money in when you have the best cards...and isn't that all that we can ask when we are playing poker?

Hope this helps,
vatyx

I can understand to an extent, but that is not the main point I`m trying to make.

I think you will accept that you, in the main, have two ways to make cash playing poker.Play a high olume of low limit games, orPlay lower olume of higher stake gamesI suppose its quality quantity? I don`t have time to play 8 hours a day, so I will need to play point 2 if I want to make big cash. Also, I suppose, u could play a mix of both but I doubt many do that.

So the main point DM is when do I move up.

I accept the point you make about playing better players, but I honestly feel that the fact I`m playing better players that are harder to outplay will be balanced by the fact u r more likely to get sucked out by players less experienced chasing runner runner and catching.

I have only been playing for a year, so I am ...

Correct.

I would suggest, not just to Ron but to most members, that rather than aspiring to play at the highest level you can survive unfleeced, it makes better sense to play at the lowest level that is worth your time.

Ah, this old chestnut.

The "I should move up because I will get sucked out on less" argument is logically flawed. It's correct on the surface, you probably will get sucked out on less at higher levels, but this is because you're less likely to be getting your money in good which is in turn because the average skill of the other players is higher.

Why would you want to play against players who make fewer mistakes? Where do you think the profit in poker comes from?

Umm this is wrong too - it's the same sort of logic that leads to people chasing losses by moving up to higher levels - "I've been on a bad run so I'm due some good hands now so I'll move up!" Fact is that from a purely statistical point of iew, ...

umm depends on your roll/skill. i can't give you a definite answer but 1k+ MTTs i'd say have 100-200 buy ins for it. <360 you can go on 50-100 if you're good, i don't know if you are.

WIth 5k i'd play 50+ MTTs if i were still playing MTTs, but i'm not . I'd say anywhere from 20-55s is fine if you have 5k and are good. Not the rebuys though!!!!!!!

now that I have your attention

A bit of advice. I`ve been playing for about a year now. Doing ok - bankroll has increased in that time from $200 to $5000ish - not bad ? (helped by a few MTT ictories)

Recently I have been taking some major bad beats, and I mean major (I don`t know if u can see my other recent posts with hand history)

What I do know is that it is ery rare for me to go all in or to showdown and be behind - fact!!! I can`t remember the last time this happened other than a week or so ago I was on a nut flush draw, I was the big stack, and the odds for me to call his all in bet were 5:1 - I called and hit my heart flush. The only other times are when I am short stacked and I have to gamble. I know I am probably behind at this stage.

Now I know that poker odds work out over a long period, so it got me thinking. If that is the case, would I not be better playing in higher stake buy in games, so that when my luck improves I win bigger?

Also, if I was...
