M is the number you get when you divide the amount of chips you have by the total cost of blinds and antes for one orbit

4 is low
10 be careful
30 loads

the higher your M the more room to make moves you have

I second (third ??) what Grum and Chuck said.

Also, I don`t find it surprising that STTs are where you struggle. I would say that they are the most difficult of the three disciplines. Within an hour or thereabouts you have to play full-table, short-handed and heads-up and at arious blind levels. Pretty much every skill in the game is tested within a short space of time, and you have to feel the appropriate moment to change gears.

What grum said; there's a different set of skills for each type of game.

STTs: Lots of bubble play, low-M play, gear-changing

MTTs: Like STTs, but more higher-M play if the stacks are deep enough.

Rings: Tons of pre- and post-flop play. Few to zero low-M situations since you should be keeping your stack topped off.

I am just the opposite, I do well at SNG's but horrible at MTT's. (I don't play any cash games except live games) It is frustrating but I keep plugging at the MTT's and I see myself playing better and better but not cashing out, yet.

Ya Grumbledook is rite, they are different skills,, Chris Ferguson only plays Tournaments and other Pro`s only play cash games,,, i think you need more patience in tournaments, Chip Reese only played cash games till 2 years ago, guess it depends on your personal preference>>>>>>buck

different skills are needed for the arious ones, blind/stack sizes bubble play etc

there is a lot more shorthanded play in a stt than in a mtt, short handed player is generally considered harder

oh and losing only has on o in it ;]

Hi all.

Can you guys explain this to me because it does not make sense to me.

I am a winning player on cash (limit games - on average I play $1.00/2.00) and MTT (Mainly up to $25 buy in in the main). I`m a loosing player on SNG`s (Average of $18 but in).

How could this be? When I listen to TV and read up on poker, I hear that the MTT players are not as good playing cash, and the cash players are not as good playing MTT (This is obviously a generalism)

I could understand if I was a winning player on one area, breakeven on another and a looser on the other, or a winning MTT & SNG, loosing on cash, or a winning cash/ SNG player, loosing on MTT.

I say this because, rightly or wrongly, I see SNG`s as the game inbetween cash and MTT.

My sample is taken over a 14 month period.

Overall I`m a winning player, so maybe I should not worry, but I love to be good at everything, and I`m driven mad when I can`t get my MTT game into profit

I...
