5 to 10 years ???? How many people can afford to stick with losing money for five to ten years?
Well, if you stick to sound BR management and study hard, I guarantee that you'll never go broke or even lose all of your initial deposit. We've had examples again and again of people who grind their way up (slowly) and that once they're ready to move up, they already crush the game at these new stakes. thus insuring they always come out a winner.
If you go the Moneymaker way and rely on loans to "learn" how to play poker (read somewhere he had pissed 40k before he became a "winning" player), you'll need to get lucky if you want to stay 5 to 10 years in the game.

i find gambling to be a bit of a problem when u start to make big dents in ur bankroll or even lose it all, which automatically makes you feel bad and sometimes makes you want to keep putting more and more money on the site you play at. This is where the real problem is in gambling.

in my experience when i am in a good place mentally (no pressing issues in my life) i do ery well playing online..but if something is going badly in my life (girls,$$,job) or if im upset or if im playing with $$ i cant afford to lose...i lose big..
The main thing is to maintain control and not go above your stakes..definitely don't play at a level that can make u broke and if u start to feel the hurt of money losses take a 2 month break (suggestion) and save up some money on the side to play with..Never use money that if u lose u cant pay your bills, or buy something u wanted, or take your gf out......
oh and btw..over the long run means at least 5-10 years of playing solidly

[quote=TurnipHead;575866] If you are addicted to online poker then it depends. If you play to the well-known tried and tested formulas and use patience and discipline then you do not have a problem because you will win long-term.
I play using the well-known tried and tested formulas derived from theories, from all these pros. My computer has all the newest and best software support programs. I keep reading about how I'll eventually be a winner in the long run. When does the long run take effect? Do I stick with it till I'm broke? Define long run?

There's "online gambling" and then there's "online poker". They are two COMPLETELY different things.
If you are addicted to online gambling (I'm assuming irtual casinos) then, yes, you have a problem because you will lose in the long-term no matter what system you use.
If you are addicted to online poker then it depends. If you play to the well-known tried and tested formulas and use patience and discipline then you do not have a problem because you will win long-term.
If you are addicted to online poker and treat it as if it's gambling and have no logical way of playing then, yes, you have a problem.
Does online gambling cause mental stress or mental problems? Again, if you are referring to irtual casinos then I'm sure that for many people this would be an unfortunate "yes".

Doesn't that kinda depend on the individual? I mean, there's folks with a gamgling problem, there;s folks who play poker for fun, and there's a lot of degrees in between. Know yourself, manage your BR, and stick to your limits and you're fine. The key is control. Are you controlling it, or ice ersa?
