It only pays big if ALL the money goes in BEFORE the flush is made.
Otherwise, the 3rd or 4th suited card hits the flop and the action stops. Only the donkeys move more money in.
At the 5/10 tables you will be able to 'out bet' any flush draws. But not at the lower limits with pure gamblers.
I was at the Bellagio in Vegas, somebody went all in on the turn to stop the flush, English guy called and said 'I always go for the flush draw' and hit. He was getting about 4.5 to 1 odds on hitting but about 2 to 1 on his money. Didn't add up but he went for it anyway.

Your answer depends on a lot of factors...
1) the palyer chasing (is he a donk, solid, aggressive)? If he is a donk, there is nothing really you can do. chances are if you don't bet, he's goin all-inanyway. If he is a solid player then you have to make it not worth his while by aggrtessively betting. that tactic may or may not work for the aggreesive player.
2) the event - freerolls? fugetabotit! they will chase no matter what and they will catch. Dont get mad, just think they freed up some time for you if they bust you out. Freerolls are a sort of bizarro land in the poker world. I only play it to laugh at the other players who take it serious. Ring games and cashy tournaments have a more savy player but beware of the first hour where donks abound 4:1 (wow same odds as the dlush draw. (have fun)

This is my biggest problem in poker is being able to push someone off of a flush draw!I dont think it can be done.lol.I see it all the time and so many players are willing to put there tournament life on a draw really wild but you have to just keep pushing them eventually some players do quit chasing.I know this for a fact when i first started in on online poker you couldnt push me off a draw.I have since changed my style of play

Lets see... if the allin is in the flop... the illain have a 35% of making his flush to the river.... he has 1 in 6 chance if the allin took place on the TURN card.
One more thing... if the hand is just between you and another guy.. he will never have pot odds, sometimes he will outdraw you, but most of the time you will get that dead money.

To each his own. I do understand pot odds. When any bet is for the majority of my stack and I know I'm behind, like in a flush draw, I feel it's impatient to try and risk their when I know something safer will probably come along. The only time I would press is if I was shortstack and the blinds were getting big. That's just me though, I guess.

Huh? Did you actually read the article? Pot odds is a basic poker concept that you really need to learn and understand if you hope to play a long term winning style.

if it does not cost me alot of chips ill always chase a flush . i heard from a friend that if you have 4 of the same suit by the flop you have a 1 in 6 chance of hitting that flush

I will overbet if I feel they are on a flush draw. I don't mind if someone will chase at that point as I will note it, I will win alot more then they will even if they hit that time and them hitting it will reinforce their belief its correct to chase it with bad odds.
In tournaments if my stack will support chasing sometimes I do, sometimes I don't, if I have something else (pair, two pair or a straight draw) as well I am more inclined to.

When playing in a tournament, I personally don't rely on pot odds nearly as much, since the odds even out over the LONG run, and tournaments aren't always LONG runs.
But in a cash game, keep following that "odds logic" and you'll get some profit.

To the op, don't forget though, a missed Flush can also benefit you - if they miss (and so so many have missed) then the pot is yours.
But, I wouldn't call an All-In with only a flush draw - especially if I didnt even have a paired card!
I also would chase a flush at high price - e.g. 2/5c NL, bet 20c then obvious call - bet $1.50 and i'm out!

But see that involves more math than I want to do right now, because since you have a set, all you need is the board to pair and your good to go. So you still have 7 outs on the turn, then 10 on the river. If the percentage of us hitting a WINNING flush is higher than the percentage it requires to call, then we should be doing it.

Yeah, there is nothing wrong with chasing a flush if you have the odds for it. I see so many folks crying about it when I hit a flush on the river when I would have the pot odds to call a gutshot.
I play limit though, so it's much more likely I will have the pot odds to chase. There are alot of circumstances where you should be raising your flush draws also...

The reason people chase them is because when it hits, it usually pays really big. I don't chase unless I have the nuts flush draw though.

Is there anybody on the entire net who doesn't chase a flush? This is driving me absolutely crazy. I almost want to fold these monster hands from fear of being outdrawn.
