For some strange reason, a lot of people seem to think that Poker is ery easy, or at least that it is a game purely of luck. By those rules, people will act in a ery strange fashion, completely at odds with probability (ho ho). Televised poker and the general explosion in poker facilitated by the internet has meant that any muppet with a bank account (oh, that would be everyone, then) can just sign up and be playing within minutes. For the average working joe, a dollar or even 10 dollars is more or less nothing so this increases their willingness to just throw it away chasing some miracle or other.
Another possible reason is that a lot of people dont want to risk being outplayed on the flop by players they know are probably better than them. Hence, all-in preflop. They dont really think about other peoples hands, only their own, and the thinking is "Well, my two cards seem quite good, I'll just remove any need to be clever or tactical come the flop by throwing all my chips in now". | | Read Entire Entry |

Hi naruto,
This sounds ery much like the $1 and $2 sitngo's I used to play, or worse the $1 MTT rebuy's, I think there are a lot of novices who deposit like $50 and enter these $1 tourney's not really caring much about winning, it's either just go for doubling up or nothing. I was watching my wife play the $1 re-buy at bodog the other night and one guy just went all-in pre-flop every single hand, no matter what he had. The worse thing is he was getting lucky most of the time, taking out AA and KK with stupid cards, we watched him buy-in no fewer than 17 times but eventually he managed to get to chip leader doing this, his stack was 32,000 after just 30 minutes of play, he lost the lot in 3 more hands then proceeded to buy-in some more, funny thing is by the time the add-on after the first hour came up he obviously didn't have any money left, we still can't work out the reasoning behind someone like this even entering the tourney in the first place.
I can't say about pokerstars as i'm just s... | | Read Entire Entry |

Post some hand histories where you had a tough time, it'll help a lot to get some different perspectives.
As to the loose players online idea, you should see some live 1/2 NL games I've seen. "No - foldem - holdem" is what they've come to be known.

This topic in general comes from, my own personal experiece.. I have yet to figure out if I am playing wrong or if "it" is out to break me.. This question is from earlier in the day, i had bought into 3 tourneys at pokerstars, all 3 tourneys were the same buyin, all three tourneys had about the same amout of ppl, and all three tourneys i played the way i know how to play, which is more or less watch the table, be conservative, and don't try to bully in the early stages, and only come in decent hands. Now all three tourneys i busted out in 50 semi place, that doesn't piss me off, but what does is the fact that i keep getting pushed around with the best going in, and when i push back i don't get any respect, not to mention ppl constantly keep hitting there 3outters, or gutshots, or whatever. I really can't comprehend the point of putting hard earned money in and not caring wether u win or lose.
plz n1 tell me if it's my thinking, my playing 2 tight and not a canon ball or what, that's ... | | Read Entire Entry |
