they just pull all your hand histories from your hard drive and log them in a database for you. with that info they give you your stats for your play, when you join that with pokerace hud you can display all those stats on the screen while you play along with your opponents.
is it needed? no
is it useful? yes sometimes.

Ive been using holdem indicator. it gives you the odds of making a hand e.g. straight, flush etc. But also it keeps tabs on your opponents, how many hands they play, raises etc and attempts to categorise them e.g. fishy, loose, solid etc. Helps to solidify your ideas about your opponents.

First off hello nice site:
I use 2 different ones.
Poker-spy.
Great interface gives you the % to win before flop TURN AND RIVER ECT.
It keeps track of each pot how many players called what they called down with and pot size. Keeps track of your % to see the flop turn and river also tracks other players in the room’s %. it keeps info like how many hands you’ve played with a specific player and how much you have won or lost from that player (very helpful)It has a graph on win and loss and how many hands you played ring game and tourneys. It also holds your cards after you folded just to see what you may have hit (kind of a crapper) also hand ranking and groups biased on sklansky I be leave. Last but not least has a probability of what the opponents may have.
Poker Pro 2007
Have some of the same features with a little more graphics.
Keeps track of most info on the table itself like % to win how many outs ect.
Also has an adjustment if you play loose or tight a... | | Read Entire Entry |

I've tried holdem indicator and must say I do not care for it. It is unable to find the table at Wingows. I have HI overlayed over the table. The program sounds much bettor than it is. Don't waste your money.

I'm using Poker Office and I'm ery happy with it so far. Everything is built in which means you don't need to get any add-ons to get a HUD, graphs, etc. I also think it's ery easy to use.
All in all a ery good software if you ask me.

There really isn't enough difference to say one is better than the other. I think Pokertracker supports a few more sites. But they both cover all of the major ones. Poker Office is considerably easier to get setup, but, with as many users of Pokertracker as there are. It isn't hard to find someone to help you set it up.
You could flip a coin to decide which one to purchase IMO.

general answer
you should not make all your decisions based on the software, the software is there as a tool for when you get in tough spots. Like say you hit top pair and get check-raised you really dont know what to do, if you see guy check- raises like 5% of the time you can lay this down because you know you are up against overpair or set.

lol I love this answer.
I use pokertracker with pokerace HUD and I must say, I love it. Biggest help for me is the numbers it shows really helps you put someone on a hand. Lets say illain raises and you have a hand like a-10 or a-j. If I notice that he has played 125 hands and only raised PF 10 times, Im going to fold whereas before PT and PAHUD I would have called, hit the ace, and lost to ak because I didnt respect the illain.
Well worth it in my opinion.

Deal Magazine often has a HUGE section devoted to different software programs, and comes with a cd of demos that you can try out. If you can find a copy it would be a good place to start (although I confess there seems to be so many programs with similar names and functions that it is difficult to sort through).
A simple google search turns up a couple of sites with limited reviews. My bookmarks have a "Tools/Software" section that is pretty large. I think compiling a comprehensive review would be a huge undertaking.

Alright guys and gals what are we all using now a days to help our poker game out, the only software that I use is pokertracker and it is incredible, but I have been reading some threads lately and seeing some names of other software programs that people are using.
What I want from all of you is to name what you use and tell me a little about it, I would love feedback from everyone.
I want everyone to name and explain at least one, if you want you can do more then one.
By the end of this thread I want to be able to know something about all the popular and not so popular poker softwares out there.
