I would definitely consider just trying to do anything to get that out of one's mind. Players that I run into all the time talk about their bad beats a lot more than any other plays, especially the good ones where they didn't suck out on another player.
If clearing your mind means getting away from poker tourneys or poker in itself for awhile, then you should do that. I've been away from the online poker scene for an extended period of time and only occasionally head to a casino for live gaming. I'm back to school and still have to pay off the remainder of tuition, so I'm not really much into playing.
Yet, I'm still attached and trying to improve my game. If you haven't done so already - to help clear yourself without getting totally disconnected, read poker books. You can still become better without the playing time and possibly you can pick up some new tips and eventually a renewed desire to play the game.

Predicting the cards is your problem. Be confident, think of the card you want. Don't give the poker gods any sick ideas.
This pertains to any game, live or online.

Was that live cards tournament or online tournament? It seems to me the more I play online the worse the bad beats get. I can even predicts the cards before they come up sometimes. It's like the computer is looking for the only card that can beat you when some idiot is playing some crap like 7/2. It's like you r the chosen seat or not, and if u r the chosen seat what ever u play wins. It's getting where it's not even fun to play online any more. Sorry for being a downer but it's how I feel trouble92

Whats up everyone. I've been gone a few days at a tournement and i come back with a bad beat. I'm still trying to figure out what happened. I lost to a four of a kind when i had pocket 10's and my opponent had jack 10 suited. I dont think I'm going to play in another tournement soon.

Hello,
I know everyone hates bad beats but this one needs to be shared. I was playing at Full tilt the other day and I was holding pocket kings. The flop comes out K K A. This put me in total control. I checked but then someone raised so i reraised. He called the next card was a 2. Then he went all in and he showed me Pocket Aces ( he has a fullhouse). But on the last card I changed from happy to pissed when it was an ace giving him the better quads.

I agree with JonSherwood..
Why you would call this with so many limpers is kinda strange. Low kicker is asking for trouble as well. I would only ever play J 6o with either a) me BB no raise or B) heads up

Yea so ... that happens all the time ... get used to it. (not being mean, just that its happened to me lots of times). And if you thought you had the best hand, you should have heavy betted at the flop. (that's what I should be telling myself as well) And I agree, why play a J/6 os?? (never would unless in the BB and blinds are 10/20 and just for fun) Also, you gotta know that someone has some sort of full house with what was out there and betting heavy. (but I've been caught there too). What's funny is he's playing a worse hand than YOU.

Yeah...I don't know man. I think that was just a mishap on your end.
First off, J-6 off suit is not a hand you want to be playing anyway. That can lead to a lot of losses because of your kicker. I general don't play any face card with a lower card unless it's shorthanded to 3 or 4.
Secondly, there were 6 cards that could beat you off the turn, when everyone was still in. Generally an all-in like that means the person has perhaps the card that gives them the highest flush. Having the flush with a lower card is no way to call an all-in and be booted out of a tourney. He did get lucky with that full house, but that should've been one you layed down.
I'm not trying to criticize you either, just offering some friendly tips. This is how I, and most players, would generally react in that situation.
Jon

sorry to say but for me thatīs not a bad beat. If the guy reraised you all in, didnīt you think at least for a moment that he could have a higher flush? If in the turn there were 4 other players, didnīt you think that probably anyone could have a spade higher than 6?.
Yeah, the full house was luck, but i think that calling his all in reraise was a mistake.

I was playing in a private tournament on Jetset. I was in 40 sometin place out of 69. I am dealt jd 6s. I called the 50 chip big blind, with about 4 other people. Flop comes j 4 8 all spades. I bet 50, everyone called. Next card is a a of s. I check in hope of slow playing it, but someone bet 50. I raised to 100, and everyone went out except for one guy. Next card comes and is a 4d. I bet 120, and this guy raises all in, I call and flip over my flush. He flips over a full house 4's full of j's. I was soooo pissed . And that was the end of the tournament for me.

My worst beat was definately losing quad queens to quad Aces. I was holding Queens and my opponent limped just called my moderate bet preflop. Flop comes down QQA and i almost choke on the chex mix i was eating. So i figure i have this hand down cold so i raise a good bit and he re-raises. Of course with Quad Queens i have the nuts even to rockets. So i go all in and he of course calls, flips over Aces and almost s***s a brick. And wouldn't you know he catches an Ace on the river to pick up Quad Aces over my Quad Queens. I just walked away and didn't play for the longest time

the best way to crack aa is with suited connecters. if you have an open ended strait draw and a flush draw after the FLOP. then u will crack aa more than not

How many of you have had pocket A's, gone all in and then lose to trip's? We all have at one time or another..Pocket A's is the strongest hand that you can have..preflop..but it doesnt always mean that you are going to win. I have personally lost to trip 2's..2 times in an hr. Ideally you want to just be in the hand with one other person..but it's all the luck of the draw. Any comments on thsi?

well i witnessed this one; it wasnt me, but i would've been so pissed had it been
i cant remember preflop, but the flop came K8K and first player checked...kind of suspiciously and small bets ensued
then came turn, and a 4 popped up
it turned out 2nd player had K4 and bet huge
3rd player called, then back to 1st player, and he all-ins
both called and showed:
1st: K8, full house
2nd: K4, also full house, but beaten by 1st
then 3rd: pkt rockets, which were of no use against these hands
then you could just feel player 1 relaxing, gettin all happy knowin the chips were comin his way
BUT
the river turned out an A for the lucky-as-f$#!$ and now overstacked 3rd player
felt sorry for those guys

why is it people play dead cards and stay and out draw you when they have nothing up until the river i think that is what makes the game unfun
of course....
cause clearly you have NEVER won the river.
seriously, if your hoping to NEVER lose on the river, give up on poker, and go take up BINGO.
for webber, if your niece stays in a lot, of course she's going to win on the river a lot. What do you think? She's going to miss the river each time? I bet if you actually took out a notebook and kept track of it, she doesnt win on the river that much. But winning on the river just sticks on your mind more.

Depends on the table stakes. If you are playing a low cost game or a free game, people think "why not see what I get". But, if significant money is on the line then people will play tighter.
My 19 year old niece is also one of these types of players. When we are playing home games, she stays in on most every hand up to the river. The crazy thing is she almost always catches her cards. So, yes it can be frustrating.
