I don't know about High Stakes Poker, but quite often the lumps of cash on the table at the end of tournaments are actually bricks of $1 bills. For security, y'know... so if somebody runs off with one, they only get a few hundred bucks.

Which is why I always found the cash presentation at the WPT Aviation Club episodes to be a laugh - there's about a dozen wads of pretty coloured Euro bills there, but it's as much money as pretty much any other one they play

Yeah, I think it's mostly flash. At any casino I know of, that cash would be changed to chips before the dust from putting it on the felt settled.

Is she watching 'High Stakes Poker' on GSN? Big stakes cash game with cash on the table. Also at the end of some big tournaments, when they get heads up, the cash is piled high on the table as incentive and/or flashy television stuff.

I just noticed elsewhere that the Brits seem to have a POKER CHANNEL.

Is this true?

Does anyone in the US have such a channel?

If you have not had a chance too and you have the gameshow network check this one out. Heavy hitting pros and a couple millionaires duke it out at a high stakes table. There is a barrage of comercials so this is a good one to get the Tivo workin on. Negreanu shows the power of reputation as well as his uncanny ability to read players not to mention catch cards to rack up loot in the premiere. Old man brunson proves he's still the boss. Ted Forrest gets a set burned by a bigger set by a little known doctor. It's big money and 4 times more entertaining than Celebrity poker. The announcer had the worst hair plugs trumping even Donald. I shouldn't poke fun I'm gettin there too. Woke up the other day and thought I had a cat left so much on the pillow.

I totally agree with that. Being a good poker player is to be consistent. If you play a solid poker, maybe you will not win every tourney you play, but you will finish in the money so you can make the living with poker.
An example is Dan Harrington, who in the last two WSOP Main Event (with 1000 and 2600 people) finished 3th and 4th. Also I donīt think itīs luck to win 9 WSOP bracelets (Phil Hellmuth Jr., Johny Chan, Doyle Brunson) or winning more than 50 majors tournaments (T.J. Cloutier).
In relation to the question, for me the best poker player (or the one i like the most) is Howard Lederer.

Who is the best poker player? I have seen quite a few TV tourneys, but the commentator always talk about different players when they reffer to 'the worlds best player'

World Poker Tour is the best on tv. Here in the states I rarely get to see Late Night Poker. I've seen it a few times though. American Poker Championship was unique. It showed ALL the hands. Not a diluted ersion where you think these guys are always getting good cards. It really shows how they play without cards.

I love the world poker tour because you know exactly whats going on...blinds, stack sizes, and they show every hand a person folds preflop unlike the world series on espn where the pick a random hand between two people and you dont know the blinds or stack sizes...Also looking forward to the second poker superstars invitational looks like a great set up
