What a bunch of cheapskates. 15 years or so ago when I was dealt a royal at Harrah's in Laughlin playing $1-3 stud the pot was something like 47 bucks and I gave the dealer 10. Loosen up all you high rollers and big winners and treat your dealer right.

I ehmently disagree with this - but I'm from a different country, where everybody has different expectations and the hourly wage is actually pretty decent.

I forgot to add: tips are a motivational tool. Establishments that pay their service people an hourly wage and ban tips tend to provide terrible customer service unless the shift runner is a whip-cracking tyrant. That's why call centre support usually reeks like rotten dung.

Over here dealers make a good buck. I'll tip them to show appreciation for good work and a smoothly running table, but not for a good hand. It's an insult to imply that the dealer had anything to do with me winning a pot.
I *do* tip the drinks servers because they make crap money and the dispensing counter is about 60 yards away from the poker section of the casino, so they walk a dozen miles every shift. Up here drinks server is usually a foot in the door to a dealer or slots attendant job.

We solve the whole issue here by not letting anyone tip casino staff.
Unless you're James Packer and you own the casino - in which case, what you do is call the floor manager over, get him to fire the dealer on the spot, tip him generously, then get the floor manager to re-hire the dealer and start the game back up again.
That said, if I were playing somewhere where tipping was the custom and I'd just won a big chunk of cash, I'd probably be tipping the dealer.

poker dealers here in Tulsa Oklahoma, keep their own tips, but the other tbales games, the share all by shift.
and i always tip the dealer when i win a pot, the 1-2 on small pots and 5-15 depending on the huge stacks i get. and if i won a lot when they are there, i will throw them a nother 20-25 when they leave. and then the next dealers will have already heard or seen it. they become ery friendlyto. make me feel good lol
when i leave, i think, dang, i gave away about 100-125 in tips tonight lol

I HATE tipping.....I do tip, but, if I could find 100 people to go along with me, I would NEVER do it.
I can't understand why a restaurant charges you for dinner but won't pay the waitstaff.
It also bugs me that, when it comes to casinos, if i tip MY dealer ALL the dealers share it. If I tip MY dealer, I'm tipping MY dealer, at that point I don't care about the other 47 dealers in the building.
My personal opinion is that tipping should be done away with and industries that rely on tips should be paid for by thier employers.

Did you stack the deck on his behalf? No? Well, then, I hope you get your just desserts for every bad beat "you" give to every player out there...

Exactly.
As a dealer myself, I am sympathetic to the tip situation-- but remember: you don't write the mail, you just deliver it.

If that is true that is pretty gross. He could have tipped something even if it wasn't overtipping.
The tipping thing is out of hand though... take more rake and pay the people.

Our champ Roy Winston is actually no champ at all. Has no class to stiff the dealers who helped him get to where he is now. Winning over 1.5 million dollars. He must not care if the dealers make a living or not. Well Mr. Roy Winston shame on you for being a stiff!!! Gook luck on your next tournament. I hope the next dealers realize what a classless loser you are.
