Hi,

Has anyone build a bank roll by winning play chips and selling play chips at pokerstars.com?

Thanks

Hmmmm. $2.50/hour. Sometimes I think many of us should just get a job at Burger King for a few hours and make a decent deposit.

There's a Blog somewhere that has lots of detail on the Chris Ferguson challenge, I think there's a link on his challenge site.

Apparently, Chris played only about 200 hours total before reaching the 10K. This puts the 18 months into perspective, because he simply didn't play that much.
He often played up to 6 tables at a time though.

Well as I said last time I had won 1.37 in the cardschat freeroll. Tonight I played in the $100 HORSE freeroll on Full Tilt. I played for over 6 hours and came in 1st place! During the tournement I rarely fell out of the top 20. over 90 percent of the time I was in the top 10, and never once fell below the chip average. My total BR now is $16.37! This win helps things alot for me, next step is $50! winner!.jpg

I started from zero on Poker Stars and accumulated 4$ playing freerolls as I reported here previously. Then I played in a 10 cent big blind ring game and lost it all in less than 40 hands. Lol. Have to start over now. I understand this happened to Ferguson 2 or 3 times also.

Hmm I wouldn't mention it because you aren't allowed to gamble if under 18 and some countries 21. Poker site moderators do read forums and you will be caught...

i started off with 0 and was able to build it up to a little over a hundred in the past few weeks, withdrew it and startin over again but it does feel good to be able to turn nothing into something. it was the first time i was able to build an actual bankroll from 0.

The forum freerolls have a much better payout than the straight poker site freerolls, as you have found. Look around for others that pay more than 1% of the players for a better chance at increasing your bankroll.

Realize that 10 cent tournaments are risking 10% of your bankroll. Since it is only $1.37 that might not be a real problem since you can always start over. Also, the people who rebuy are going to put you at a little bit of a disadvantage, but since the rebuys are 50 cents, that mathematically makes up for it. I wish you luck at that.

I finally got above the 0 mark today in the CC freeroll on Full Tilt. I placed 25 and won 1.37. Not alot, but a start to my goal. I plan to start playing the 10 cent rebuys with the 1k guarentee. I do not plan on rebuying or adding on. Made the first step on the long journey!

I've been trying for about 3-4 months now. I keep getting busted at the freerolls. Argh! Maybe I just suck at poker :'(

Not to hijack the thread...but.....

Do you need a deposit on Absolute?

And.....

HOW DO YOU WIN FREEROLLS? I keep busting at 700/5000...somewhere like that.

All I'm saying is that if you're playing with more than %5 of your bankroll, you'll eventually either go bust, or get so stressed that you end up withdrawing your whole bankroll. Take it or leave it, that's what I've learned.

I wish you all the luck in the world

Why would you blame yourself for a bad beat?

Beats are part of the game and will happen all the time which is why you HAVE to practice proper bankroll management. Take it from someone who was playing 400nl with a $2000 bankroll (%20!!!) and now plays with around %1 of my bankroll.

Try your luck at some fixed limit cash games. minimum 20 cent buyin. If you play tight, you can normally make a good profit.

I started with zero on Poker Stars a couple of weeks ago. So far I have accumulated 4$ playing about 15 freerolls. Biggest payout 1.50.

I would normally follow those rules, sometimes go a little over at around 6 or 7%, but more often than not using BR management. My bad streak just came from beat after beat, but I'm not blaming anybody but me. Once I was down, I did start playing too high to make it up, saw it didnt work, and withdrew some to make sure I would have it.

I made my post for a certain reason, and completely forgot to put that reason in...

BANKROLL ****ING MANAGEMENT!!!

I know you say you know bankroll management, but just to reiterate, %5 is the absolute max. you should be playing with. Especially with multitabling. I think %1 should be the standard. If you've got that down, as well as discipline and solid play, then you're safe.

Well my BR on stars started with a 20 dollar deposit and i got up to around 1000 and then cashed in a tournament and was up to around 4k. started hitting rocky roads after that and I cashed most of it out so I would make sure I had it. Still have a couple hundred on there. BTW, in the top 100 on Absolute right now nearing the first break!

For anyone who plans to do this, just know that it's ery ery possible to build a bankroll from nothing.

Not to brag, but I myself started from freerolls, and have been playing with an $11 FR cash for a few years now, withdrawing about $5000 total since, and I'm still playing with my ~$800 bankroll. Plenty more have done a lot better too.

And what AG says is partly true. I think the hardest part is breaking through a ~$200 bankroll and finally getting it to $1000; after that it should be smooth sailing.

I've been close to cashing a couple times so far, havent quite made it past the bubble yet. Hopefully I can get down to a final table, because the prizes get pretty good for the freeroll rebuys on Absolute. It would be a great start for me!

Ive done this quite a few times. I usually cash out when i reach about $150 and start over, but this time I'm gonna see how far i can get.
Check my Sig, I'm doing quite well, although i did get a great head start by cashing in a cake poker freeroll for $60.
It can be done, all you need is good patience and Br management. gl!

This is the same thing Chris Fergusen did. His goal was 0 to 10,000 in a year. It took him about 18 months but he did it.

About 7 years, I'm gonna start out doing freerolls on full tilt and start working my way into low stakes cash games and sng's. I know how to manage a bankroll because I have a real money account on stars.

I've been playing poker for a while now and I know all about ariance and bad beats. But I am starting on my bankroll from 0 today. I have a main goal of reaching only 1k. I would like to have 100 or so in the next month or two. Wish me luck, I'll need it lol
