It couldn't hurt to get a couple extra high alue chips, in case you want to switch out some of the lower alues as the blinds get high. So that you don't have to deal with a ton of 5 chips and 100 blinds.

Yep, your chips look fine if it's only for 6 runners.
As for the blind structure, I'd follow pokerstars' structure, but that would mean having to start with 1500 in chips instead.
Like that ^^^, but I'd use 20 min or 1/2 hr blinds instead.
If you don't have enough chips to do that, then I'd just make the blind changes different. Something like:
5/10
10/20
20/40
30/60
40/80
50/100
etc etc
This is something I used to use in my home games; makes everything a lot easier.

Hi, I am having a poker tournament night with a group of friends and I have a few questions to ask. We are playing Texas holdem No-limitpoker
This is what we have decided on:
There are going to be 6 players including me (take turns in being dealer)
Buy in for 1000 chips is £10
I still havnt bought the chips so I will need to know how many i will need to buy.
Ive decided that each player is going to have this number of chips
20x£5 + 16x£25 + 5x£100 = £1000 chips which is 41 chips each.
Am I right in thinking that I will need 250 (246) chips? Or do I need more?
I also need to know what the blinds should be, and how often they should be increased.
Thats all
Thanks
